High Chlorine After Shock

Thanks! Didn’t get past thinking of initial MA Shock, but interesting to learn there are also minimum MA levels I can consider when I eventually get back to normal maintenance. One other question about MA: Do I have to vacuum it to waste so it doesn’t keep growing? I think that’s required with green algae. I have a cartridge filter, not sure if that makes any difference.
Vacuuming to waste is not “required” with any algae- the chlorine level that’s in the water is in the filter & will kill it just the same. Just clean the filter when pressure rises 25% over clean pressure.
Most with cartridge filters cannot vac to waste anyway. If there’s large amounts of debris one might wish to vac to waste if possible simply to bypass the filter altogether & give it a helping hand/avoid having to clean it as frequently - this applies to all types of debris (algae or no)

Anyone buy Taylor replacements on Amazon? I need the R-0871 regeant because I’m running real low on the one that came with my T-100 Pro kit.
I have and had mixed results. Some of the reagents were up to a year old already. I would order reagents from TFTESTKITS.NET They are guaranteed fresh and super support if needed. Oh, and fast shipping.

exactly why I’d rather get from TFP but I need so fast so I thought about Amazon. But I just checked my bottle again and I don’t think I’ll make it to Saturday. Which means I have to hope I can find it on a store around here. I’m a week into SLAM and almost done it would suck to run out now.

I get it. It is a dance. Find what you can, order what you can...

There are some ok vendors on amazon & even walmart. So far I haven’t had any issues. I try to stick with vendors that also have their own website/store.
Nothing like that prime delivery when you’re in a pinch. I am closer to where tftestkits is so it’s usually about the same transit time for me.
Get the 2oz bottle so you don’t run out for a while

I ordered on Amazon for now, coming Sunday but I’m going to run out to a couple stores tomorrow morning and hope I get lucky. One thing I noticed about expiration dates is that the bottle that came with my kit doesn’t have an expiration date on it.

The reagents from tftestkits are guaranteed for 1 year.
Until your new reagent arrives you can use a 5ml sample & every drop counts as 1ppm. You don’t want to do your final oclt this way because it’s not as accurate but for the middle of slam when running low this will get you in the ballpark & help conserve reagent.

Here is a picture of a filter basket sock of mine. Curious to everyone’s opinion if this looks like mustard algae or something else. The sand color is stains on the sock, not dirt or sand that you can feel.IMG_2931.jpeg

Mustard algae presents itself as a yellowish/greenish powder that "poofs" away when brushed. It tends to live on the pool floor and shady side of the pool walls.

You would not see it in the sock you are using.
Oh I thought the sock would catch some of that? I have had the sandy color “poof” at the bottle of the pool for weeks now Even going underwater and trying to touch it it just poofs away. Although, haven’t noticed anything on sides of pool. And on the floor it shows ups in various locations all over the bottom of the pool. Including the center of the pool. I don’t have a “shady” side. The sun hits different spots of the pool throughout the day. My pool is about 50-50 sun/shade throughout the day, with sun/shade part changing as the day goes on.

So I took the ladder out last week before SLAM so I could clean the heck out of it, including getting all the sand out, and put a bunch of holes all over. My plan was to fill some chlorine bottles up with cement to use as ladder weights. But after putting back in the pool today I find that I don’t need any kind of weight. The handles that are attached to the deck have no give so the ladder doesn’t move at all or float/lift off the pool floor. May have saved myself more headache trying to rig something up.

I had a chlorine test result that confused me this morning. My OCLT was 5ppm this morning. First time since I starting testing that it was over 1ppm. Most days it was zero. However, the CC this morning was was still less than 1ppm. Without sun how could my FC drop so much without CC being present?

You still at cya of 60 & slam level of 24ppm? That’s alot of drops & easy to mis count. Especially in the wee hours.
I see you have a robot 🤖 have you inspected it for algae?
You can’t see your
PoolMath logs so hard to be sure what’s going on.
