High Acid Demand and Recommendation to Replaster

Your fill water has a CH of 250 ppm. From Lake Mead. You evaporate a bit less than I do each year, so less than 2 pool volumes. If you drained and replaced the water in May (which would reduce your overall evaporation amount as late March and April are strong evaporation times) your CH should be no higher than 750. Likely closer to 600 ppm.

Well...on May 10th I did a refill with water from the hose and got a CH = 370. I do agree that being at 950 seems high. but based on your calculation....I started 120 higher, so I should be at 870 ish....so not too far off.

So....based on everything shared here:
- The stains are in fact dirt trapped in Calcium
- My CH is too high...so it is perpetuating the problem
- Solution to Calcium/dirt build-up is heavy duty sanding
- Have Plaster Company POLISH (no need to acid wash or REPLASTER)
- Maintain a CH below 750 (which means a DRAIN EVERY YEAR)
- Maintain a sight negative CSI to help prevent calcium build-up
- If this is correct...I won't bother having the PB come out and look....I will just move forward with the POLISH from the plaster company

Is this a correct assessment? : )

Sounds like a good plan.

Bumping up...:)

EDITED TO ADD on 10/21 : I have the plaster company saying that they have to do a LIGHT ACID wash & Polish. I cannot do JUST a polish (which is funny, because the first guy said there is an option to do just a polish...but anyways).
How much should I push the issue that I only want a polish? From skimming various posts, ACID washes quite a bit of downsides, but I honestly don't know all the downsides. If I can only get a polish if I agree to the LIGHT acid wash....shouldI just do it?

Did they tell you what their LIGHT ACID WASH is versus a NORMAL ACID WASH or HEAVY ACID WASH? An acid wash is an acid wash.

The acid wash does a lot of the work of the polishing and makes me wonder what the company will really do other then wave their polisher around a bit.

I am meeting with the plaster guy on Thursday to hopefully get a better understanding of what a LIGHT acid wash is. So....would you recommend just doing an acid wash and NOT the polish? Or just the polish and not the acid wasH?

I still say they are hired and they should skip the acid wash and just do the polish.

BTW, as what type of polishers and polishing pads they use while you are inquiring.

The first guy that came out used a Diamond polishing pad to show me how it works (hand sanded an area)...50 grit. I am assuming they are going to use something similar....but I will definitely ask on Thursday
