Help with Hayward Equipment on New Pool Build

Supplies are touch and go right now due to the Texas freeze damaging 600,000 pools! Everyone is buying pool supplies that its running down stock.

You'll love the autocover. Keep the dogs off it and when its open, teach them where to get in and out of the pool (the steps) for safety. We dont want one to fall in and not know how to get out. Skimmer socks as mentioned will help keep the dog hair out of the filter.

We have two German Shorthair Pointers. They will be entering the pool from various locations, most likely airborne. They have experience with swimming pools, my in-laws and have an in ground pool and they are great at using the two ladders to get out.

Got it. What about sense and dispense?

We don't recommend it. It can be more trouble then it is worth. WE think using TFPC methods especially if you have a SWG is easier and less trouble to manage.

The SWG takes care of your chlorine needs.

You can manage your pH with acid additions every few days. Some folks use Stenner pumps for automatic acid dosage.

The Sense and Dispense is an overly complicated system.

Understood. I'm fine with testing my water and treating it as needed. Any recommendations for a test kit that will cover everything I need? Preferably something that is well organized in a case or something and idiot proof.

TFT Pro Salt kit - Test Kits

We have thousands of "idiots" using it here. You will fit right in and have lots of support.

Lots of great advice so far. I have full hayward equipment myself, but the prologic as Omni logic wasn’t available when we built our pool inn2017.

On the robots; I’ve had a hayward aqua vac which was part of the pool build and was a great robot. The motor went out which hayward replaced under warranty just short of two years old. I sold it off and bought the M600. The dolphin is by far superior. It both cleans better, and is easier to empty and maintain. You can’t go wrong with either, but I’d go for the M600 if you can get your hands on it.

My other comment would be the filter. Get the larger size up, the 7030, especially with dogs. I have had both my labs and my golden retriever in the pool constantly and I only find I need to clean it once a year before spring opening without ever seeing any increases in pressure. I clean it more out of I need to do it for maintenance than necessity. The oversize to me gets me enjoying the pool more with less filter cleaning. The downside is cleaning the 8 cartridges is a bit tedious, but not hard.

I’d also recommend that if you’re planning on bubblers or any other water features, get a single speed second pump. That way you can automate them with a touch of the control... waterfalls and bubblers on and off without effecting pool circulation which would be your VS pump. Ours is fine that way and it’s nice to not have them on if not needed. As far as larger pump, you’ll get more suction at lower rpm, which may help the longevity of the motor... won’t work as hard over the same time period as the smaller hp pump. Is it a guarantee? No, but likely will last longer.

I definitely want to go with the M600. Are they only available through local dealer? With the bubblers he added this: Hayward SP3215X20 2HP Water Feature Pump and VGB Compliant Drain Set.

I have the Triton PS Plus (aka T.O.M.). It is the same as the S300i & Doheny's Mercury. And there is a Pentair Model "Warrior Plus?" that is the same.

The difference between my Triton Ps Plus and the M600

No Caddy - T.O.M. lives in my pool. The daily timers are useless if the cleaner is attached to the caddy. Maybe it is more useful for part year pools for storage. But honestly, it is not a big deal. The unit weighs about 24 lbs.

Same body, and basket system. The M600 comes with the secondary fine basket (basket inside basket). I bought this from Amazon for about $40. Both come with the standard body fine and ultra fine filters.

Cycles: The M600 has 3 cycles, bottom only 1 hour, normal bottom and walls 2 hours and extended which is 2.5 hours. T.O.M. has 2 cycles, bottom and normal.

Cord - same

Wifi - yes

Style - Mine is orange (Terribly Orange Monster - T.O.M.). The M600 is a nicer color. The two bars don't really do anything

Power stream - this is how they get around

Split brushes - The turn radius on the M600 is shorter with the double brush. Mine uses the power stream to make moves. I don't think it cleans any better.

Mine was $1050 online. Add in $40 for the secondary basket to $1090. I think the M600 is closer to $2K.

If I had to do it again, I might have bought an S200. It is also nearly the same. Same Body, same Power Stream same basket. Just 1 cleaning cycle. But it is about $700. And there is an automation mode where anytime it gets power, it starts. This could mean you could set it up with a relay in the automation system or a WiFi controlled outlet.

Pool shell is in... don't mind the mess in my yard. I have a question about coping. We were set to use Techo Bloc coping in onyx . We have that same product elsewhere in our yard and my wife noticed that it leaves a stain on our kids clothes so she wants something different. We want something that is in the grey family, preferably darker so it contrasts our pavers. Are there any natural stone options?

Stay away from "flagstone ". It is sandstone and constantly turns to sand. I'm planning to replace with a rough granite.

Your in PA. Bluestone. But it does get hotter than plain concrete or pavers. We only have it on the coping with concrete elsewhere.

I’d recommend the sawn thermal finish over the natural cleft that we have. It adds a few pennies but looks great.
