Help with CYA, pH, FC, and CC

Follow the SLAM process. Print it out, read it three times, keep it in your back pocket.

The more often you can check and replace (even every 1-2 hours) the faster it will clear.

I’ve been slamming I get that. But overnight I lost about 2.5 FC. This morning my FC was 13.5, I added bleach to 16, and 10 hrs later it’s 1.5 and my CYA went from 40 to 30? I’m not understanding.

The issue is that you are waiting 10 hours to test and replace FC. Test and replace to slam level every 1-2 hours in the beginning, until the loss is smaller. You want to try to maintain slam level and not let it drop so much.

CYA can fluctuate 10 from time to time. Err. Your interpretation of the test may fluctuate.

+1 with @PoolStored above. You're starting a new SLAM and it requires more effort at first. If you're busy, do the best you can.

Do you think my CYA is not holding bc of whatever is in the pool is consuming it? With all the sun our pool gets all day I can’t seem to keep FC up (and I’m at work all day) but will have to try something different.

Now I’m just baffled. Unless my 4.0 reading last night was somehow wrong, I checked FC twice this morning and it’s 25+ which means it went way higher than it should have. Is it possible my deep end isn’t mixing well? The returns and skimmers are working but I wonder if it’s somehow collecting there and that’s throwing my testing off.

Something is off with your testing. 4Gallons of bleach would raise FC 13-17.5 depending on strength. Chlorine circulates fine and doesn't "not mix well."

What size sample are you using to test?

Re-test FC with the FAS-dpd. Take your time. Hold the drop bottle vertical, squeeze very slowly and let the drops drop from their own weight, swirl. 10ml sample. Each drop is .5

I haven't changed anything with how I test except I have new FAS-DPD powder and reagent from the TFP kit. I started with the new reagent then my powder ran out and I started the new powder. I don't know what else but I tested twice this morning. I will check again when I get home but I fully expect FC to be around 3 or less with the sun we're getting.
