Help! What is taking over my pool?

New member here. Not sure if this is algae or not, so hopefully in the right forum. We first had this stuff last year for part of the summer and it returned this year, just within the last 2-3 weeks. It's small and stringy - most strands 1/2 in up to 2 inches, looks like little beads strung together. Algaecide knocks it down but it comes back. Pool store thinks it is insect eggs of some sort. I vacuumed and skimmed 8 hours ago and it is back worse than before. It settles at the bottom of the pool by the returns but also floats on and below the surface. We also find it on the ground near the pool in any bit of standing water (which we keep dumped out but even on top of the backwash hose). I think we also have dried bits of it on the concrete around the pool. Worse on one end, near a neighbor's tree, but there doesn't seem to be anything coming off the tree based on checking the tree swing. Water is otherwise clear with pretty good levels (chlorine 6.34, pH 7.3, Alkalinity 95, copper ok). Please help! Thank you.

Wow! Never seen anything like that before. I don't think it's algae. When you touch it is it solid like an insect egg would be or does it crumble more like a powder? Does it return at the same time every ear?

Thanks for replying, OTPIrate. I can smear it between my fingers and it is soft. If you bump it in the water it does not disintegrate. Weirdly, I do feel like yesterday it had more of a grainy feel to it. Not sure if that is because we used algaecide last night or not. It is much better today, huge piles at the bottom of the pool and less on the surface. It does seem to be the same time of year. This is only the second year we've had it.

I have never seen anything like that..

What are your numbers at, what you posted above seems like pool store numbers.. Have you done a SLAM to see if it is some kind of algae...
