HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

OHHHHHH A sparkle! Got you all excited didn't it!

Keep shocking, soon you won't be able to see the bottom of the pool due to all of those pesky sparkles! You should find it MUCH easier to keep a FC level at this point at shock level. If you're losing alot of FC during the day at this point....maybe bump your CYA level up from 30 to around 40. The shock level will go up....but not much. Your current level is 13, where a shock level of 15 is required at a 40CYA level. Not much increase, but you'll see a HUGE improvement in how much less chlorine you'll need to add daily.

That reminds me.....I need to add CYA to the weekly shopping list. :D

Lilli says Hi from her Lilli-Pad, Emily is all smiles and Mr. Sparkle will visit your pool soon, but... remember to have fun on the 4th and to thank all the guys and gals that ever put on a uniform to allow us to enjoy our time here.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

It is even more clear this morning with some flock in the middle.

Everyday it is getting more clear.

I would STRONGLY suggest to anyone that gets to the point i was, where we are waiting and waiting for that sand filter to get rid of the dead stuff, to flock. It was a breakthough for me and for sure spead up the process. It was not that difficult to do, relatively cheap at about 11 bucks and i didn't even use all of that. Heck if i can do it, anyone can.

How long do i wait before i can test the CYA? I'm afraid to add any more till i know how much of what i added is there. Due to the amount of vacuuming i did with the flock and refilling, i'm sure i lost a lot. I can't see that it's holding the chlorine that much better at this point....

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

When did you last add CYA? Have you only added the once? If so, test and raise now will be fine.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Thanks Poolmama!!!!!

CYA.....Yes i only added that one time and it was before the flock....

Ok tested. It got a little cloudy but i could definitely see that black dot all the way to the top....

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Let's assume then it's 20ppm. Add enough via a sock to raise the cya level to 40. Test again next week. There's a chance your cya level could be higher, but you've got room to play around some.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Yes, it takes about a week for the CYA test to show up, so that would be tomorrow. If you add enough to raise it 20 you should be all right. You are correct that the vacuuming to waste will reduce the CYA. I was hesitant about the Flock, because it does take a long time to get rid of it, but you are correct. It was the right thing to do. It will be easier to vacuum it up than to not see the bottom of the pool.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Hey is there anyone around today that may know about this problem i'm having all of a sudden?

I turned off the pump and now can't seem to get it back on.

It will come on for about 2 seconds then it trips the breaker.

It's not the electrical outlet i don't think. I plugged in an air mattress pump and it seemed to work fine. Does the pump have a reset button? I looked and didn't see one. Why would it all of a sudden start tripping my breaker?

Uggggg!!!!
Anyone got an idea?

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

If the motor runs for 2 seconds and the breaker trips... meaning you have to reset the breaker in the panel... I see three options. The pump motor is drawing too much power due to a problem inside the motor (assuming your water pressures are not high). or the breaker is getting weak (this is less likely but still a possibility) or you are having a brown out (call your utility company to confirm).

Can you use an outlet in another electrical circuit?

If the breaker is getting weak, your air matteress pump does not draw enough energy to be a reliable test.

Is it possible that your experiencing a "brownout" where the AC is no longer close to 120v... more like 108v. This will cause the motor to draw more current and that could pop a breaker when normally it would not. See this link for more on brownouts.

Does it move water while it's briefly on? You may have a clogged/stuck impeller. With the breaker off, take out your leaf basket and try to turn the impeller (wheel that moves the water) and see if it spins freely.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Ok....techguy, i'll try and comprehend what you are saying here in a few...thanks for responding...

Linen..i'll start with your response because right now my head is spinning with this and yours seems a little more down on my level of something i can maybe figure out.

I did take out the basket and felt inside the tube that runs into the pump. There is nothing to turn and there is nothing (ie leaves, ect) that is blocking it. I don't see a way to turn the impeller..

You are in the right spot...you may not be able to see the impellor in there, but it looks something like this: http://www.troublefreepool.com/hayward-pump-tripping-breakers-t40629.html#p331374 the thing with the curved vanes. It should turn, it it doesn't there might be something in there blocking it, or your motor is seized up.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Would this mean my pump is shot? That is what the pool stores are saying. To get another pump online it's gonna be around 200 and i won't get a pump until Tuesday or 350-400 here locally.

Someone shoot me.

Techguy....I had an electrician come out and put in a new outlet this year. He said it was working great and i don't think it is a problem there. But, i could be wrong.

I don't know what to do. Sounds like this is just way over my head.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Did you check to see if a rock or coin didn't get sucked into the pump? Unplug it or shut off the breaker (or both) before you put your hand inside the pump body.

A rock, coin, stick or other debris could have caused the pump's impeller (the part that pumps the water) to be wedged or stuck.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I took out the basket and put my hand inside the part that goes into the motor and i feel like a ball thing...plastic, suppose to be there ball thing. But that's all. I can't see or find or get to the impeller.

The shape of you impeller could feel like a ball. This is an image from Wikipedia and you place your hand inside the pump body you would feel the part you see in the center of these.

Could you make the impeller move with your fingers?

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Ok yes yes. I guess it's like the first pic. That is what i feel. But it is too far down the tube to try and turn it, all i can do is touch it with my fingertips. I can't get a screwdriver in there because i don't have enough room. I do see there is nuts and bolts i could take the basket off to get to the impeller. But, how do i stop all of my water from coming out if i do that?

Here is a pic of what i have....
