HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I don't think it'll hurt much to wait until Monday, as long as you maintain the chlorine like you've been doing. It might even clear up! Wouldn't that be cool?

In the meantime, if you post some pictures of how the multiport on top of the filter attaches we can tell you what you need to do to get inside the filter. Since you say your not handy with tools, this will probably be the most difficult part for you and it will not be that difficult.

One of the substitutes is Zeobrite. It's what I've been using. When I went to buy sand last year I could not find any so I had to get the Zeobrite. It does a good job. But so does sand. 2 of my friends have the same setup as me. Except they use sand instead of Zeo. I can see no difference in the clarity of their pools and mine. Zeo costs more. The only thing that might benefit you about Zeo is the weight. If you have to do this yourself, Zeo is about half the weight of sand for the same volume. You would need about 75 pounds of Zeo in place of 150 pounds of sand. And if you do some research you will see that there have been quite a few complaints about Zeo. I have none - other than cost.

Am I disappointed with Zeo? No. Would I buy it again? No. I don't see the advantages. Except when I move my filter indoors for the winter. For those 2 minutes of lifting, I'm glad for the Zeo!!

OMG ya'll will be so proud of meeeeeeeeeeeeee

I have almost all of the sand out (got a friend to help me, she don't know how either but we are learning together)

After the sand is out, see if this is right...

I'm assuming i clean the inside of it with water and dump that...

Then... put that tube with the little tubes attached in the middle....then...put the sand in? So the sand goes on top of the little tubes and the little tubes are on the very bottom?

Also when i get to the top where the big white tube is that goes down the center, do i stop putting sand in? I mean will i then be at my 150 pounds? In other words, i am sure no sand should go into that big white tube...right? And the big white tube just sits in there in the middle, it isn't attached to the top is it?

More questions.....

Do i clean the inside with something? That sand was so green OMG isn't that algae and shouldn't i clean it good with something?

Here is some of what came out....

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

CONGRATULATIONS You have it almost right. The little tubes are easy to break so be careful in handling them. Get all the sand that is above them out and then remove them along with the vertical pipe they connect to. Check them to be sure none or broken. If one is broken you will need to replace it. When you get all the sand out and have washed the filter out then put the little tubes connected to the large vertical pipe back in and fill halfway with water before putting any sand in. The purpose of the water is to cushion the little tubes as the sand settles. You do not want to put the sand in directly on the tubes because the weight hitting them could break them. Your correct that no sand goes into any of the pipes.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

if you wanted to mix a little chlorine with water and pour it into and then wash out the inside that would be OK. Probably not necessary, but would not hurt.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Hooray!!!!!!

Ok well the tubes are connected with more screws. So i guess i'll take that whole thing apart. I was hoping i wouldn't have to.

Of note: We got the entire top off without having to disconnect any hoses. We tried to take one off but it's like glued or something because after we got the screw out of the round silver clamp the hose still wouldn't come off. I just hope we can get it back on that way.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Oh so i don't have to take those little tubes off? I would much rather wash them from the inside if that's ok. My screwdrivers aren't the best and it would be way easier for us. It's like each one of them are screwed in.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Yes, just be careful with the tubes. They are the most fragile part of the filter and when they break they let sand get into the pool. If the hoses have clamps they are probably not glued, just stuck from having been on so long. I would not take them off if I can get it back together with them still on.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

pssst... Those little tubes are "hinged" so you can fold them up and take the whole assembly out without taking those screws out. I'm probably late, huh?

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

i just got the life scared out of me!!!!!

Got everything back together and put the lid back on. Put that clamp thing back around the lid and screwed it on. But, one side seems to be stripped and i don't have a nut. So i thought, well i'll try it and see if it will leak. Thinking that would be the only problem.

So i plugged it back in and for a second it worked then all of a sudden the lid POPPED OFF AND INTO THE AIR. I would have had all my teeth knocked out if i had been standing over it like i had just been.

OMG. Now i need nuts. Going nut hunting i suppose.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Well, hands down i'm the biggest nut here. But, i need a little nut.

Just my luck. LOL

So how do i know i have that lid on good enough? When it don't pop off and kill me?
