On the subject of chlorine..... My local Agway has the liquid chlorine- 12.5% per gal. That's pretty good, isn't it?

If the price is good!

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

I meant to write that it was $3.99 per gallon..... Assuming the Clorox is more than $2. per gal. at half the strength, I thought it wasn't bad. Couldn't get the price chart thingy to download!

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

What else are we gonna do but help others. We've all got clean pools. :)

I should duck now shouldn't I??

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

HA!!!!!! Yeah well!!!!! I will too.....someeeeeeeeeeee day!!!!! You wait and see!!!

Oh wait, you already are waiting and seeing. Is this a good time to say i've not bought my sand yet? Nor do i have a clue how to change it? Did you get stuck with helping me? Did ya'll have to draw straws? LOL

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Rock, scissors, paper

Only time I've mess changing sand is when I had to clean out cat poop from my daughters sandbox. I'm sure somebody else will walk you thru that process. I can't see it being hard however.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Well, the pool store said they would do it...for $1/pound. Which would equate to 150 bucks. If it is real hard i may let them do it. I own two screwdrivers and a hammer. Mechanically inclined i'm not!!!! If you have to have a wrench or worse, socket things, i wouldn't know how to start.

Funny bout your daughter's sandbox...I remember when my boys were little, the neighbor kid threw sand in my son's eyes. That day the sandbox was gone. I should have just made that kid stay away from our sandbox. Oh well, 20/20 hindsight!!!!

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Niki, Niki, Niki. Do NOT give the pool store guys the satisfaction of walking away with a smirk on their face after ripping you off for a dollar a pound!!! It isn't difficult to change the sand. Have a friendly neighbor do it if you don't want or can't do it yourself. Even if he/she hasn't done it before it's not hard. What's the model of your filter? You just have to be careful not to damage the laterals, and don't get sand in the fill pipe. Don't pay someone 150 bucks to do it. I'll fly there and do it myself rather than give someone the satisfaction of ripping you off. I'll just charge you flight fare!! :)

Please don't give them a hundred fifty dollars to play in the sand!!!

All you'll need, probably, is one of those screwdrivers you already have!

Don't worry about the names being thrown out... Laterals is just a fancy word for a pipe with tiny slotted holes. Fill pipe is a fancy word for pipe.

It's sooooo easy! Just go get us a better picture of the collar and the hardware that I'm pointing out here.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

How old is your son? Can he help you? Do you have a neighbor who mows his yard and takes care of minor repairs? These are all people who can help you? Go bac and read the link I posted on how to remove the multiport? Read it a couple of times. Google changing sand in a pool filter. I bet you come up with a Utube video. If you have a screw or bolt that you do not know how to remove take a picture and post it. We will tell you what tools you need. You don't need to spend $150 dollars. The Wiki I posted the link to says use a shop bac to get the first part of the sand out, but if you don't have one a cup or spoon or scoop will work. It is no big deal to change your sand. You can do it.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Yes, we're going to make you into a pool :thequeen: yet!

My sand filter doesn't even have a screw, it has a handle that you can loosen/tighten by hand and a metal collar split into semi-circles so you can remove it. Then I just pulled the multi-port off and that left the base, sand and the pipe(s). You'll only see 1 pipe sticking up and I just covered the hole with wide blue painters tape, but duct tape will work too. I actually took out my pipe and washed them all out (mine had twist lock "fingers" at the base, I turned a little counter-clockwise and pulled them out). Then dump the sand, rinse the filter base out, and dump in the correct amount of sand for your filter. I believe it should only cost you about $25-30 for sand. The local Wal-mart even carries pool sand up here.

Wakey, wakey! We need numbers :testkit:

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

   Let's all party! Only lost .5FC overnight. Now let's work on your sand and adding some CYA to that pool.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Our Wal-Mart sells CYA - called HTH Stabilizer and Conditioner I believe. I'm guessing you want to pick up about 4 lbs of it (although you might not add it all at first). With your size pool, that would be enough to get you to 45 CYA. Probably want to start closer to 30.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Yep, walmarts got it. Just look for 100% Cyanuric Acid. I wanna say its The one with a purple lid (but I could be wrong). Grab 4 pounds and only add enough to take you to 30ppm.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Ok...that is the agenda today. I am assuming i change the sand first though.

I'm gonna need a lot of coffee today!!!!!

Headed to YouTube to find a video or two or three!!!!

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Yep, change the sand first then add the cya. After that bring your FC level back up to 15. From there keep the FC at shock levels if 15 until your pool clears up. Also you should see a reduction of the cc too

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Woo-Hoo party time! Leebo is correct, it has a purple lid, but be careful and read it before purchasing to make sure it is stabilizer. I believe HTH uses the purple lid for more than just stabilizer, I think the PH Plus and PH Minus (I know the PH Minus does because I just bought one a couple weeks ago) are also purple lidded. 1 - 4 lb'er is going to be probably a little low if you're shooting for a CYA of 50. I think it would take your CYA to about 35-40. I think 1 lb raises CYA 10 per 10,000 gallons, check the package it tells you.

The price is about $15.47 for the 4 lb'er.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Jenson's correct....all their "balancing" products are purple lidded. It's a spot to start however. :D

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

As to the sand, be sure it is "pool sand" not garden sand, etc. I don't know if WM carries it. You may have to go to a pool store. Just so you know there are sand substitutes that are supposed to be better and cost more than sand. The pool store might try to sell you some of this stuff instead of sand. I tried one once and saw no advantage, so the next time I went back to sand and have been happy. Others may have had a better experience with the substitute sand and may advise differently.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

My son has to work today and not sure when he is coming home. This is Thursday and i work the weekend. Will it hurt to wait until Monday to do this? I'm going to go get the stuff today but if i have to wait until Monday, do i wait on the CYA as well? Just keep adding bleach at night like i'm doing for now?

I don't want to wait but dang i wish this wasn't Thursday. I may run out of time. Will this set me back bad? If i have to i may see if i can get a neighbor to help, don't really want to do that but i can if ya'll think this should be done today.

But, i'm gonna try. Maybe i can just do it myself. I do have a shopvac and ironically, i do now how to use it.

I'll keep ya posted.
