Heater Problem

Been there, done that a few times with these raypaks. I will say this isn't something that can be addressed online. Everything from are the labels in the inside beening burnt, to what poolman said, to the board etc. I always try to hot start the heater, sometimes from the rollout just to rule out the board. because frankly Raypak should come with a free pack of replacement boards. Because they go out so easy. Go with what your new guy says. Because this is an impossable guess from online with a Raypak.

Question: When cleaning a heat exchanger does the pool pump need to be shut down? The guy who was scheduled to do the cleaning called to postpone saying if something goes wrong during the job and he needs a part he may not be able to get it promptly due to the holiday weekend and he didn't want to leave us with a pool that is "down" over the holiday. I understand his concern, but I wasn't aware that the pump would have to be shut down while he was working on the heat exchanger.

If you have a bypass, no. If not, yes. Heat exchanger needs to be removed from the heater. Can't be flooding the heater with water.

Thanks. Is the bypass something the repairman would install or would it be on the heater already?
A heater bypass can be installed with some PVC and a diverter valve or two.

Or he can cut the heater in and out lines and loop them temporarily with some PVC if he cannot get the pool running that day.
