Heater Plumbing suggestions

Hi All,

Just ordered a new heater to add into my existing system. A Raypak 336k unit.
While waiting for the shipping of the heater, I'm trying to brainstorm the best way to plumb it.

The heater will sit next to the existing chlorinator where the gas line is as well.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to TFP.

You don't have much more room to work in there. What are the three return pipes lead to?

I would cut the pipe coming out of the filter and at the pipes where they go down. So you are replumbing the entire valves and chlorinator.

I always recommend you install a Heater Bypass - Further Reading and replace the ball valves with diverter valves.

You keeping the tablet chlorinator? Now would be the time to install a SWG or plan for where it would be cut in.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the idea. There really isn't much PVC there to salvage which sucks.

I did order the cupro nickel version of the heater for a future salt conversion. Will be the next upgrade down the road.

The 3 returns: 1 goes to the stairs, and the other two go to the 4 corners of the pool.

Plan for where you will have a straight horizontal or vertical run after the heater to cut in a SWG.

We just bought a 336A Raypak. First experience is that the contractor installed a heater made in 2018, so I'm not happy cause I'm wondering if he's trying to pull something weird. However the installation requires a bypass valve. and a check valve if you have any kind of chlorinator or SWG. Im going to take some pics of how it's plumbed to see if that helps you.

I don't know if it helps, but at least you have an idea how this one is set up. A lot depends on the space available. Good luck.

Thans for sending this along - I appreciate the detail of the install
You're welcome will be glad to send more if it helps you in anyway. If you have not purchased the heater I found out that from 2019 forward they are equipped with Protek Shield. This extends the life of the heater.
