My heater is officially toast. Since I’ll already have someone out here to do plumbing work on a new heater, I’m thinking of replacing my single speed pump with a VSP. Nothing wrong with the pump, but we often run 24-7 to skim debris (lots of trees in the yard). I’m wondering what pump/heater combinations you like/have had success with.

In a nutshelll:
-30,000 in ground L-shaped pool
-No automation
-No particular brand loyalty
-Budget can probably support whatever we makes sense, (But I’m never opposed to a deal!)
-heater gets a lot of use, because the pool is never in full sun

So - what do you like these days?

In the same boat! I was told yesterday that our Max-e-therm 333 LP heater is toasted too. We don't heat the pool much, but it has a spa connected that we use a lot. We're looking to replace asap. Watching to see what heaters people recommend.

If you wish to maintain a pool temperature during swim season, then a heat pump may be the best option.
If you wish to heat the pool before use occasionally, and during the shoulder seasons, then a gas fired pool heater is the best option.

For a VS pump, depends on if it will be supplied by the installer or you are purchasing. For DIY, a Calimar 3 hp is great. Or a Pentair Intelliflo3 for a higher quality system.

Regardless of which brand you may choose, get the largest in capacity, at least 3THP for the pump, a 400K BTU gas heater if you go that route, or the largest BTU heat pump that your electrical service can handle.
