Hello,
I have an Ultra Temp heat pump. How warm does it have to be outside to get much out of it? Our water temp is 68 and the air temps are 55-60. It’s not moving up in temp and I’m wondering if I’m wasting electricity at this point.
We’ve never had much issue getting the pool warmed up but it’s just staying at the 68.

What model UltraTemp HP are we discussing?

The chart below shows that when air temp is between 55-60F your HP puts out about 90,000 BTUs.

90,000 BTUs will heat your 36,000 gallon pool less then 1/3 degree per hour.

Even when the air temp is 80F your 120,000 BTUs will heat your pool less then 1/2 degree per hour.

Do you have a pool cover?
