When you used the main pump to drop the water 18", did you have the Intake valve set all main drain or was it set 50% skimmer and 50% main drain???

I did not use the main pump. I
Used the water feature pump.

It literally worked fine yesterday morning. Then not after I dropped the pool level and refilled.

Remove the pump lid and show starting the pump looking into the basket.

Lube the o-ring on the union connected to the pump on the suction side.

Would that just give up the ghost in one day?

That’s exactly what someone with a clogged impeller would say. You never answered James, what’s the psi and does water come out of the air relief? Turn pump off and make sure it stays off and remove basket and check the impeller with some tweezers.

No one asked me the psi.

I answered above that 1. Air comes out of the air relief and 2. Water comes out of the hose bib that's attached to the discharge. So it's pumping water. It's not pumping it through the actual filter though.

Check the impeller.

Maybe it is clogged.

Something happened, we just don't know what.

Usually when you have a significant intake leak and the pump can still prime it pulsates.

Check the cell to see if it is clogged.

Clogged impeller was the solution. I reached in and pulled out some leaves and immediately it started gurgling, like I had broken a vacuum. So I knew I was in the right path. Pulled out a good handful of small leaves from my Dang yaupon plants.

Put the strainer back in, filled the basket, lid back on, fired it up and it started pumping in like 3 seconds.

Did you run this without the pump basket in it? Leaves shouldn't get to the impeller.

No, I did not. But yaupon leaves are tiny. If they make their way through the skimmer they can easily get through the pump strainer.

I need skimmer sacks.
