Hayward TriStar VS Pump won't turn on

Would love your help! Our one year old pool was opened about two weeks and our pump was never quite right - doing some strange things (Hayward Pump/Omnilogic Help). The first thing I noticed though, was that the display on the actual pump itself wasn't on (last year it was). Up until a few days ago, I could control the pool and features by using the OmniLogic app. However, now when I turn the pump on in my app, the pump won't prime at all and doesn't make any noise. I figured out that I can turn the pump on in service mode on the Hayward OmniPL... so I know the pump still works. Any advice to get our pump on the OmniLogic app working again the way it's supposed to? Thank you for any help!!

Hayward branding is very confusing. Is the physical panel you have OmniLogic or OmniPL?

I would check the network connection between your Omni panel and your home network.

The Omnilogic app talks to the Hayward server who talks to your panel. You need to sort out if the communication problem is on your end or you should complain to Hayward about their end.

Thank you for responding. You are correct, the branding is tricky and we actually have the OmniPL. The network connection appears to be good, I checked several times. The pump won't turn on via the Omnilogic App or on the OmniPL controller... it will switch on, but the pump won't actually prime or do anything else unless I turn it on in service mode. In service mode, the pump works but only on a high level. We also opened the pump to look at the wiring, and although we aren't electricians, everything appeared to be appropriately connected and there wasn't anything obviously wrong. Anything else you think I should try? I really appreciate all the help I can get!

Please update your signature saying "Hayward OmniPL with OmniLogic app" to be clearer for the future.

The OmniPL is fairly new and we have not seen fixes for many problems yet. We know a lot more about problems with the OmniLogic system that you can read here --> Hayward OmniLogic - Further Reading

Your best bet is to call Hayward Support and see what they say.

Let us know what you find out.

Is your firmware up-to-date? Note that Hayward has been having issues with the App lately. I did receive a message from Hayward indicating that the issue had been resolved and that a new firmware R4.4 would be released tomorrow.

I looked in my pool log from last year and o had a similar issue (thought not an Omni Pl pump but mine is a vs).

  • pump would not run, power was fine. Spun impeller with screwdriver, no issue not jammed. Pulled apart wiring cover didn’t see anything. Pulled Comms wiring off and repowered pump, it started right up In stand alone mode. Put Comms back on and good again.

No idea what happened but running it in stand alone mode with no comms wiring cured it.
