I had a brand new Hayward Super Pump VS-700 1.65THP pump installed a month ago. Initially I was getting some air bubbles in the basket but it was not installed level and the connections were not well sealed. A second tech came out and he leveled and re-attached/sealed the connections and the bubbles were basically gone. After a couple of weeks, fine bubbles started slowly re-appearing. The only change was I emptied the pump basket a few times. On top of that, my cost savings in month 1 was not impressive as I was running the pump too long at higher speeds. I've since lowered it to run at about 1500rpm for most of the time, but at that speed the bubbles in the basket have been slowly growing in size.
That's the background, now on to my question
The tech said that the O-ring on my pump does not need lubricating but he recommends flipping it over from time to time. I always make sure no debris is on the O-ring or the underside of the cover and I tighten the lid well, but so far no luck. The Hayward manual DOES indicate lubricating the O-ring, if necessary, with Jacks 327 before starting. My old pump (really old) had an actual O-ring that I could pull off the cover rather than one in-laid into the pump, so lubricating was a necessity. I'm hoping a little lube might help solve the problem but not sure if I should be doing that on this model pump. I wouldn't be so frustrated by the bubbles forming if they stayed in the basket but I have to keep bleeding air out of the filter.
