Hayward PoolBoss keeps tripping on an off with a "SER" message displayed

Wondering if anyone knows troubling shooting steps for a Hayward PoolBoss. I found the installation manual but nothing about diagnostics. Basically when the filter timer comes on the system keeps turn on/off. When this happens the control panel reads "SER". AFAIK, there's only two sensors attached... a freeze sensor and a temperature sensor - my gut feeling is "SER" means one of them is tripping?

I am not sure of the answer so here is a bump to get more eyes on it.

Thank you. One thing I've discovered is that SER is printed whenever the control knobs are moved from the "auto" position. It's possible one of these knobs are failing.

SER is probably shorthand for Service Mode

Can you give us a more detailed description of the settings the panel is in and how it behaves?

Are the knobs being moved?
