Hayward Northstar DS/VS motor suggestions

Hi all,

Currently have a Hayward 3/4 HP pump with an AO Smith motor (193220-02).

Looking to see if I can replace the motor alone with a dual or variable speed version. I do have a solar panel set up (about 10 panels on the roof of a single story house). InYoPools suggests alternatives in the Q&A section but many of them are not compatible with NorthStar pumps.

Can anyone provide any suggestions or am I poised to go through a pool specialist?

Hello Grenademonkey - I believe you asked this same question over on the Inyo site. The variable speed motors, like the v-green, are not compatible with the Northstar. However, there is a dual speed option. Your current motor is a full rated 3/4HP single speed motor. The closest dual speed option is the uprated 1.5Hp motor. The part number is SPX1610Z2MNS.

Thank you Rob - I was indeed. I've given it some more thought and figured that if I will pull the trigger, I'll most likely end up replacing the entire pump given that the replacement motor isn't too flexible on programming and such.

All the best!
