hi, i have a Hayward h100ID heater. was working fine saturday. on sunday, it wont fire up. bypassed each sensor and i smell gas, but dont hear any spark from ignitor. does anyone know how to test ignitor? it looks to have about 44 volts when reading with multimeter. not sure if there should be some resistance (ohms). i'm suspecting the board but looking for some troubleshooting steps. appreciate the help

It looks like this might be the manual for your heater https://images.inyopools.com/cloud/documents/hayward-heaters-above-ground.pdf . If it is, your heaters lowest voltage reading will be 120 Vac as it does not have a transformer and even the gas valve is 120 Vac. You will not be able to read your spark ignitor voltage with your multimeter (it will be too high). You can check for the ignitor spark by turning off the gas valve and pulling the ignitor. Then attach an alligator clip jumper from the ignitor mounting plate to a good ground while letting the ignitor hang free without it touching any other parts. Cycle the heater with the gas off and observe the ignitor for a strong spark. Realize that to get a good spark with the ignitor mounted in place that the mounting plate and the area that the mounting plate touches the burner assembly must be clean bare metal and the heater itself must be well grounded. The electrode (where the wire is attached) and the grounding rod (attached to the mounting plate) must also be clean bare metal (can be cleaned with steel wool). Your ignitor should look like this Hayward IDXMOD1930 H-Series Heater Control Module with Ignitor 610377550802 for sale online , the bottom part with the high voltage cable attached. Be gentle with it when cleaning the rods so as not to crack the ceramic insulator on the electrode.
Had the same problem on mine. Traced it to a bad solder connection on the coil that feeds the spark igniter. Re-flowed the connection on the back of the board and it worked fine.
