Hi All,

A friend recommended this site to me, and wanted to try it out. Recently my Hayward Power-Flo Matrix pump has been leaking out of it's shaft seal and keeps tripping the GFI breaker. I was able to locate a used pump, but it's a 1.5HP pump. I currently have a 24' above ground pool, and the sand filter is a Hayward S180 T. What concerns are there with moving from a 1 HP to a 1.5 HP? Should I stay away and look to rebuild my current one/replace with a similar HP pump?

Thanks for the advise,

Welcome to the forum!
A 1.5 hp pump is going to be pretty strong for your 18" sand filter.
You would be better off repairing your current motor with a new seal kit or replacing the motor with a two speed.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Pool School eBook.
