We actually get our water from the Sierra's out of the outingdale water system and lakes just above El Dorado Hills. After reading your post I figured I should call the Water district and find out what their levels are. They said that we have incredibly low mineral levels and that they keep the water at CH 20 and PH 80-90. He said he said that this has been the case for a very long time and that its very safe and that although he doesn't work with pools he does recommend that I stay far away from pool supply stores. Which I though was funny!

I also noticed that I have white leaching from our water fall could this be from the low CH

I was out of town this weekend so this is the latest results
FC - 1.5
Acid - 7.9
TA - 80
CH - 180
CYA - 20-25 I could barely see the dot at the 30 mark.
I have added the bleach and will add the Acid shortly. I will need to pick up more CYA and CH this afternoon and add that this evening. but it looks like I need to add about 2lbs of CYA and 14lbs CH.
The water still looks great so I think I am doing pretty well

Did you get the speedstir? Makes it a lot easier to test. You are doing great. Make sure you slowly rise your CH and CYA levels as to not overshoot, otherwise you will have to drain.
I haven't yet but may. I am a part-time wine maker so swirling comes pretty naturally for me. I really appreciate the slow rise advice and have been trying to do just that. After already having to drain the pool to start over I am hyper sensitive to not mess things up and sometimes worry I am going to slowly.
I am happy to report that today is the first day that all my levels are looking good

Once you get to know your pool you can probably test FC PH every 3 days(still adding bleach everyday), TA.CH and CYA can be monthly.

If you find having to add acid to lower pH more than once every couple weeks, you might want to test TA more often as it is a determinant on how much acid is needed to lower pH.
