Hacking IntellipH to work in cold water

No, I meant what I said. People make far too much fuss about adding acid to a pool. Dropping a cup or two of acid into the pool each day is by no means a chore. I actually only add acid maybe once a week at the height of the season. But I suppose these systems wouldn’t exist in the first place if they didn’t meet a perceived need … 😉

Hey Matt I think I got a plan to make us RICH. People hate adding acid to the pool, so they get a stennner or intelliPH and then hate adding acid to that. So. Hear me out.
We sell a fumeless tank (not a lie, the tank itself has no fumes). The fumeless tank adds MA to the intelliPH/stenner, which adds acid to the pool. So much more convenient. MSRP $1299 for the JoyfulDude9000. 'You too can be a Joyful Dude when you aren't adding acid to your pool or automation. Since 2022'

For added protection and security we can also sell the NewDude3000 plastic flood pan to put under all your tanks so if they leak your concrete pad will remain “new” just like NewDude.

It can be like the Earl Scheib special … only $399 ….

Better to call it the "New Noise 2022" :poke:
ND gets top billing over JN as it was his original concept.

And yes, there is a space between New and Noise to give Matt a little, uhm, "distance" in this scheme endeavour.

- The IpH stops working when the IntelliChlor goes down for cold water, or for any reason, really (unless your name is Dirk)
I will definitely take that as an offense. You were lucky i was out of town without internet or all heck would have broken loose!:devilish:

Now, now. I meant I can run my IntellipH whether the IntelliChlor is working or not, even it it's dead, or gone altogether. This wasn't me claiming to be the only one that fixed his burned-out IntellipH board!

BTW, Tom (ogdento) now has TWO burned out boards coming his way to experiment with, so hopefully he'll be the real hero of this tawdry tale. Do you want to be Robin, or Alfred!?

Hey, I'm with @Dirk

I just heard my newly installed IntellipH dosing acid while I'm sitting here sipping coffee next to the pool and it brought a smile to my face. BTW, the IntellipH is no different than a SWCG in that they both automate adding chemicals to your pool! If adding acid to your pool is no chore, adding liquid chlorine should be no chore, right????

Except for the fact that chlorine needs to be added daily and acid does not. A pool is completely safe and swimmable with the pH anywhere in the 7 range and even at 8.0 and above. A pool with too little chlorine in it is dangerous. Adding an SWG costs as much as buying all the liquid chlorine up front over the life of an SWG while an acid feeder system costs hundred of dollars which represents years worth of acid for most and is thus a cost that you will never recuperate. Finally, most can go on vacations for many days without worrying about pH so there’s no need for a dosing system.

But yeah, other than that, they’re exactly the same thing 🙄

Fact is, I am a well-known curmudgeon when it comes to pool automation. I have an EasyTouch panel but probably only use about 40% of its functionality and I will not ever use or install ScreenLogic. My wireless RF remote suites me just fine. If I had to go back to completely manual valves it honestly wouldn’t phase me. In fact, many pools around these parts are built with very simple equipment pads and they are far less costly to maintain and easy to repair. Simplicity has its benefits.

As I have always said, the further you remove the human being from the operation of the system, the less the human being knows about that system. Automation is great if the time/energy savings results in real economic difference and/or safety improvement. But automation for automation’s sake is mostly just a waste of money on the “wow factor”.

Ah, some of us get it, some of us do not. Whaddayagonnado?

I'll be enjoying my first cup in just a minute. But first I have to go out to the yard, grab a jug of acid, walk it over to the pool, measure out a bit, being careful, then pour it into the water, careful not to splash, while holding my breath, oh, wait a sec, no I don't!

All I have to do this morning is pour some cream in my coffee. Hmmm, I wonder if I could come up with an automatic cream dosing system...

It would have the same dillema as you'd still have to fill it, so it could dose for you 🤷‍♂️

Now. If they had a device that created either creamer or MA from water, and all I had to do was press a button for more, I'd be all ears. 😁

Psssst …. You can pour directly from the bottle into the pool champ, no need to measure once you actually get a feel for what your pool needs 😉 …. And you can do it while drinking coffee too ☕️ Just use a travel mug with a sippy lid because I wouldn’t want you to get coffee stains on your deck 😢

I've already got it half built.
Wait !!!! Found a critical flaw in the plan. You still have to feed it. Alot actually. And the byproduct produced is, well, lets just say Dirkette won't want it in her kitchen.

Come on, now you're just being silly! She doesn't stay in the kitchen! She goes in and out through the door at coffee time. It'll all be on a timer. She'll eat the weeds in my yard, and fertilize at the same time. All my automation inventions are multi-purpose, you know that.
