Green pool for 10 days, today finally a bluish/cloudy..to keep adding chlorine?

Toss a quarter in the deepest part. Stand on ladder. Can you tell if it's heads or tails? If so, then you are clear. If not, you might want to consider the DE. Or just give the filer a few more days to polish the water.
Make sure you pass all 3 criteria. Clear and clean water, <1ppm loss FC, <.5ppm CC
Some folks are doing two nights of OCLT, just to sure, but SLAM completion doesn't strictly require that.

Congrats on the clear pool! I would do an OCLT tonight. Adding DE will not hurt anything and might make the pool even clearer, but is certainly optional at this point.

You go girl. You are doing great! We are so proud of what you've accomplished.

To do OCLT:

Check your FC, and CC levels right around dark tonight, and adjust if needed up to the SLAM/SHOCK level.

If the FC is already at SLAM/SHOCK levels when you check it, Just LET IT RIDE, don't add any chlorine before going to bed to hold because hopefully it will hold on its own.

Then in the morning before the sun starts hitting the pool check your FC and CC levels, and see if the last 2 criteria for OCLT are met. If Not continue to do this until OCLT is passed.

If it is met, (I'm Keeping my Fingers Crossed For You),then you can allow the chlorine levels to begin dropping, and then maintain your FC level between the min and target ranges for your current CYA level.

Whooo Hooo, it won't be long now. I'm so proud of you. :whoot::swim:

Not sure how to add a pic;) Another question--once we are done officially with SLAM, how do you all go about chlorinating? We had been using the bac-pacs for the Frog cycler, which I have since learned aren't good to use (and I just bought 6 more to the tune of $96...arrrgghh). Do you add chlorine manually every day, every couple? How about on vacation? Also, how many hrs per day do you recommend running the pump? Hubby us asking how much longer we gotta run 24/7 due to electric bill!!!

I thought about selling/sending back. Again, how do u chlorinate when gone for long periods of time? I thought about maybe keeping them and use them when we are on vacation. I can't see too much harm in using them a week at a time a couple times per summer.

It depends on how long you will be gone etc. Some send the chlorine levels extra high when they are going to be gone a couple 3 days and if your going to be gone longer you can use the 3" pucks to maintain while your away if necessary, but not all the time, because they aren't good for your pool to use routinely, but every once in a while is fine. As far as the pump running 24/7, as soon as you pass OCLT, then you can let your numbers drop, and pump less time daily.

Everyone maintains there's differently and uses what works for them, their work schedules, etc.

I manually check, and add my chlorine every couple of nights. (you may need to check daily until you figure out about how much your pool is using on average).

I add my chlorine in the evenings, so it can work more without the sun eating through it, and try to maintain it at my Target for my CYA, or just slightly higher. I try to brush at least once daily, vacuum every couple days or as needed, and generally run my pump about 6 hours a day. some run there pump time all at once, and some separate their pump times. I am currently running mine 2 hours in the morning because that skims off and filters out all the little bugs that got in during the night, then I run it 2 hours around 2-4 in the afternoon, and then 2 hours in the evening, but what ever works best for you is fine. I hope this helps.

So long as you do not use the mineral one you can use it so long as you realize it will push your CYA up some.

TFP is all about knowing what does what to your pool.

For me I just push my FC to SLAM level and add a couple of pucks in a floater and call it good. I do not take long trips. Most of them are weekend trips.

So, I think I am probably at the end of SLAM or pretty close. I tested last night at dusk, FC 25 and CC 0. I added 61 oz chlorine as pool math said to in order to get it to my SLAM level of 28. I did not test again after adding chlorine (prob should have?), but then tested this morning first thing and it was 26. So, I am not exactly sure what the level was last night after adding chlorine. I hate to test so many times, as I am really close to running out of reagent (more on the way). Pool looked very clear this morning. Thinking by tomorrow I can let chlorine start coming down? Thoughts? THanks a ton, you guys have been lifesavers for me !!! And my kids are soooo appreciative of our now-clear pool :)

You should do an actual OCLT, measuring in the evening after your last chlorine addition has mixed in, and then measuring in the morning before the sun is on the pool. I don't remember if you're using 5ml water samples to save on reagent during the SLAM; if so, use at least a 10ml sample for OCLT so you get better accuracy.

Sounds like you are close!

Yeah if Pool math said that amount would put you at your level, it most likely did. In that case it looks like a possible 2ppm drop.

I agree running it at Slam levels again today, and rechecking after tonight's add, and in the morning would probably be the best, just to be sure. Because once those numbers start dropping IF the algae is not killed out it will kick back in on you AGAIN. It's a lot easier and cheaper to raise the FC from 26, to where you are keeping it now, then it is to raise it from 6ppm, all the way back up, so it won't hurt a thing to do it one more day, and recheck OCLT in the AM, just to be certain before letting the levels drop.

I hope this helps, and you are sooooo close. You Go Girl :). I'm so excited for you. Your pool is going to be in the best and safest condition it has ever been in when you get finished.

Jamie you are far enough along that I think you can handle this................

-go the TFP home page
-look all the over to the left hand side
-under the words pool school you will see "table to contents"

There is where you can find all kinds of links! It is neat!

NOW I am not telling you this to say do not ask questions. I am telling you this because you are so far along and doing such a good job understanding that I think you are outpacing my ability to help you out!

HUGS!

Kim
