Got fertilizer in pool

Ok I’m still workin through slam process. Pool is crystal clear. Only issue is I keep getting what looks like dead algae all over the bottom . I guess that means to killing alage ? I was wondering if I should vacuum to waste or just put it through my filter? Would a picture help?

Keep vacuuming it up and brushing. Dead algae means you are killing live algae.

No need to vac to waste.

SLAMs take as long as they take. how frequently are you testing and raising FC to SLAM level?

Refresh my memory please. What is your CYA, and what FC level are you using?

Thanks james. I did a test for eight hours. I’ve vacuumed everything up and then turned off the pool pump. Let it sit for four hours nothing was back in the pool. Turn the pool back on and let it run for four hours and the stuff is all over the pool again. Put a sock over the returns And nothing is coming out of the returnS. I will continue slam if nobody else thinks I might have a filter problem

I have not replaced it in 5 years so I thought I would do that . The stuff on the bottom seem to be getting less and less. I’m thinking about trying an overnight chlorine test See if I pass. If I do then we can change the sand see a problem it’s gone? Does that sound like a plan or Bad idea?

Sand doesn’t go bad, but it can certainly need deep cleaning. I would have suggested that you check inside to make sure you don’t have broken laterals, but you said the debris is very fine and poofs away - so I wasn’t thinking it was sand. Wouldn’t hurt to check though.

You can do OCLT, but remember one of the criteria is that your pool is clear (meaning no visible algae). So if the debris is dead algae, that means you won’t pass.

But, is it possible you are dealing with pollen, or dust?

The reason I don’t think it’s pollen or dust Is that it will only Appear on the bottom if the pump is running. So I vacuumed it all up turn the pump off for a day and nothing was on the bottom. Turn the pump on and within four hours it started spreading again
