Getting sick of putting MA in

Y’all got me lazy

Probably won’t be any time soon but I’d like to start eyeing an acid doser. With my circupool edge 25 SWCG, am I understanding correctly through other posts that I need to find a way to shut off the SWCG when dosing? Are there any systems that play nice with the Edge-25?

With the LC prior to SWCG, I was adding around 12-16oz every 4 days or so. Now I’m adding 8oz every couple days, so I don’t think the SWCG changed much on that front, but I’m more certainly more aware of the potential for scale build up.

Does it get installed right before the SWCG? If so, I’d likely need to get inventive with the plumbing....

You want it after the SWG... It will eat the plates and you do not want that...

Just looked at your pool logs... Try taking you TA down to 60, that should bring your CSI down some and help with your PH rise.. If you can get your CSI down to 0 it will help your SWG cell stay CH free and also lower your use of MA...

I can try again, any time I’ve gotten TA down that low it only lasted a little bit and settled right back at 90-100 again. Are acid dosers too much of a headache?

I am not sure... I do not have one... Is your fill water TA high? Mine is not so I forget that with other people.. I add MA 2 times a year and my PH stays around 7.6 at all times but I have a vinyl pool liner now.. Once I have an all tile pool I may also feel the pain

Once you lower TA it shouldn't go back up unless you are adding water frequently. It doesn't go up on its own.

I suspect I have some aeration due to a leaky check valve on the waterfall feature (primary pump blows bubbles if the waterfall pump is empty, which it gets like because it loses prime). It’s been hard to find a Jandy replacement so might have to go with one of those copies.

Aeration will raise PH but not TA.. can you test you tap water for TA?

No autofill, I’ll check the tap water.

Every time you add water from the hose due to evaporation of pool water your TA will rise.

That is why your TA and PH keep rising... it will be never ending... Sounds like your solution would be the best...

How does this work? I’d like to try it but I thought my range for a swg was 90? I’ve been aiming for that but my ph is constantly raising. I’m gunite is only on its second month so I thought that was why.

Actually the IntelliPh installation manual says to install it after the heater but before IntelliChlor.

Mine is installed before my SWCG - I figure a little low PH water passing by for a few minutes won't harm anything and might help keep it a little bit cleaner. I use 14% acid and dilute it down further to around 7%, so that mixed in with the water is not going to cause any damage in my estimation...

I have debated a system also. I just pour a splash of acid every couple weeks. I stopped trying for some perfect PH and life got easier

I know they say that but if 1 acid cleaning takes life off your cell what will daily acid washes do... I would never take that chance... I want my cell to last as long as it can, My SJ lasted 7 years and I never did an acid wash...

I don't want to create a debate but who says that an acid wash does that? In fact I have been pouring MA in my IntelliChlor cell for 10 years now just about every month between May and November. Same cell and still going strong. In fact since I installed my Chem controller in January before the cell it no longer has a reaction when I do that. When there is no scale there is no reaction. In the past it always had some level of reaction indicating some deposits on the plates. I know this is an anecdote but that is my story.
