Gas pool heater under deck

I recently moved into a new house that has a pool and the existing gas heater is completely dead and rusted out. I want to get a new one but I'd like to move it to under my deck area.

Two people have looked at it, both giving opposing opinions as to whether it could go under the deck. One said it would be fine the other said it would dry out the deck too much.

The space is reasonably big, I don't think ventilation would be a problem.

The space under the deck is approximately 5m long, 1.5m high, and 3m deep.

Any opinions on the following would be much appreciated!

1 - Would a gas heater under a deck would dry out the deck too much?

2 - As we would be sitting pretty much directly above the heater, would it be too hot? I assume heat and hot air would come off the heater?

3 - Would we be smelling gas sitting that close and above the heater?

Welcome to TFP.

The answers to your questions depend on the specific model of the heater and what the manufactures installation instructions say about clearances and required airflow and exhaust.

Are you considering a Pentair, Hayward, Jandy or Raypak heater model that we are familiar with in the USA?
