So I have a 24' above ground pool, doughboy, that the skimmer just doesn't seem to be working well. I have the pump and filter about 30' away from the pool and below water level, water reaches the pump with no issues and seems to pump fine. If I pull the lid off the skimmer you see no water movement and no water is pulled into it, or not enough you can see. I have cleaned the filter and made sure there is no air leaks or water leaks. Am I imagining a problem or is this normal operation? What got me looking is the surface of the water is constantly covered with small debris and it just goes right past the skimmer. I am using a Hayward EC50 DE Filter and Spec Variable Speed Pump. I would appreciate any help

Water height affects that visible pull of a skimmer. Half way up the mouth is optimal.

Does your skimmer have a working weir door? It is what makes a skimmer... Skim.
As PM points out above, the higher the water, the less skimmer action you will see.
