K another 32oz of this muriatic acid added- still not in range lol (only in range with 2 drops). This algae I had must have made this water have a ridiculously high PH

Not super accurate, and I would still reduce in .4 increments, but do the acid demand test

does the muriatic acid stay in the water? Like it doesn’t “decompose” like chlorine? Just want to make sure I’m not wasting any muriatic acid

Okay sooo had to add another 32oz of the Muriatic acid. PH Still very very high (over 8.2). But I did a little chlorine test and finally seeing a very very light pink. So I guess it’s holding chlorine a bit.
Okay so new revelation. There are now clumps of what looks to be dead algae that wasn’t there earlier today. PH level still off the charts though. Idk how to get this lowered

I would look for some way to confirm your pH test results. Order another bottle of the indicator solution. Your pool store might even have it. Maybe even (gasp) take a sample to the store JUST for a pH test. Don't take any other advice from them.
Just woke up and took a new test. It looks like in Finally in range-ish (looks like it would be an 8.4 if I were to guess based on the color). Still need to add more muriatic acid. Did the chlorine test too and it turned a light shade of pink after about 45 seconds. So I think I’m moving in the right direction.
If I bring this to pool store they’ll make me buy the chemicals I need to make the pool balanced lololol
Ironically, bouncing the sample in the car the whole way to the store will likely raise the PH.
So assuming all of this is going to go the way as planned. And water will be balanced. I still need to get the chlorine tabs right to stabilize the levels? Seems that these liquid chlorine bottles are so much cheaper then the tabs- but maybe the math equals to the same.
Tabs are not sustainable long term. They raise your CYA, requiring more tabs to do the same job. Which adds more CYA and needs even more tabs. No WONDER the pool store lobes them so much. Lol.
So I’ll just continue using liquid chlorine? No more tabs? That would be great news as I spent like $400 on a Dang bucket of tabs last year lol
