Finally happened, help

Most all pool lights can come out. The whole fixture is removable with enough cold to bring them up to the pool deck to work on (change bulbs). I would reccoment looking into that IF you can't complete your SLAM in a short period of time. I've seen photos here of folks who had solid gunk come out of those light niches once the fixtures are removed. I'd say that's less likely since yours hadn't turned into a green monster yet.

And from my own experience I can say I've found algae hiding lots of different places

In the cracks where my fiberglass steps meet liner
Inside the mouth of the skimmer box (hidden)
In the stryrophoam of the weir door

Just few places.

I have been brushing over the light fixtures. I am still SLAMing.

Just to be clear, how many hours should the overnight FC test be done? Dusk to dawn? Dark PM until Dark AM? just don't get this, pool crystal clear, can clearly see the Philips head screws on the main drain. I am sure I could tell if a coin was showing heads or tails. I will do another overnight test tonight, but I am on day (5) and 8 gallons of 12% chlorine into this.

Sun off pool in evening to BEFORE sun is on pool in morning. There has been MUCH talk about how many hours is needed. It was found the most important part was NO sun on the pool between tests. I would make sure there is at least 6 hours between tests just because that is very doable. Does that make sense?

Okay got home from work tested FC at 12ppm, cc .5 ( now when the solution is clear, I put 5 drops of the r-0003) in and it's a boarder line call if there is any pink at all, I mean it's slight I put 1 drop of the r-0871 in and it looks may more clear, so I am counting the cc at .5. Tests were done at 8:35pm dark, will test again before the sun comes up at 5:30am.

Okay I think I am done, tested at 5:40 am. FC was a 11.5ppm could have been 12 ppm as we are talking tiny shade of pink, either way the FC overnight loss was 0-.5ppm, tested for CC looked like 0 to me added 5 drops of the r301 the water did not appear to change, pink, added one drop of r871 no change in color. The pool water is crystal clear and sparkling. I think we can call this a success?

I just added more cya to bring me from 55-70 ppm. Targeting FC @ 5ppm and CYA @70 per the TFP recs for salt pools.
Will be brushing at least once per week.

So when do I kick my salt cell back on? Since my FC is at 12 ppm I need to get down to 5.

With a CYA of 70 I would target FC of 7. Test the FC in the am just before you have SWCG starts to produce chlorine. That should be your minimum time.

Always good to keep a slight buffer of FC for bather loads, bird attacks from above, etc --

Take care.
