Im a little concerned about my hard water as well... I have a new FG pool and am wondering if I want to get my water to 200-250 at least to avoid some white marks around the top of the pool.
Really depends on what those white marks are from - an oxidation issue or scale. The TFP Recommended Levels - Trouble Free Pool page does list a min CH of 220, mostly to avoid potential staining since most of today's pools are not fabricated with calcium. Some test results may help. Maybe a pic of the white marks as well.
So I dont have my cover on just yet (auto cover) once thats one I will fully balance the pool to proper levels, remove those with a little bleach/water and see what happens... ill certainly post again if they come back
