Started with an essentially black pool Saturday- lots of leaves, organic debris. Got it all out and started the SLAM process. Just want to make sure I’m on the right track. I’ve been maintaining SLAM via the CYA/Cl chart. Unfortunately my CYA is on the higher end due to adding too much stabilizer on my part. Also have a Hayward sand filter so I’ve heard it takes a little longer with that. It’s gone from brown to a very very hazy blue- definitely still can’t see the bottom after 5 days of SLAM. Will my SLAM be faster if I drain some to lower that CYA? Or does it just need time as long as I maintain free Cl according to the CYA I’m at? Any advice welcome- or if I just need to be patient, let me know that as well.

Current values via Taylor kit this morning:
free Cl- 23
CYA- 60
TA- 100
Added a little chlorine to get to 24 as it recommends.

I’ll attach today’s photo- I think the other images are too large.

Perhaps the only benefit (maybe) by exchanging some water is that you replace "some" algae water with fresh. IT might have been more advantageous a few days ago, but not you're sort of in it. Really up to you though. Since you made this much progress from a black swamp already, perhaps just stick it out.

Thank you. I feel the same- I’ve been thinking since I’m already at 24 Cl- might as well continue. Just updated my signature- I think. Trying to be more active instead of just lurking this year!
