My husband is not impressed that I am still buying a ton of chemicals for the pool. I think I have used 20 bottles of bleach so far
So you've now used 20 bottles of bleach so far... probably around $120 or so, max. Now you need to add CYA, maybe a 7# pouch at the most, $25-$30 at today's price? So let's say you're in for $150 altogether. Probably will have to raise pH. If you do, a 4# box of 20 Mule Team Borax is around $6.00 at the grocery store. So for way under $200, you will do the entire conversion. Not sure about you, but I spent over $900 on my last full year on Baquacil, and we have only a four month swim season at best.
Just recently completed my pool closing, and totaled up my pool expenses for the year. This year I used some leftover degraded chlorine (around 7-7.5%) and went through a total of around 16 gallons (it's finally gone!) Had I used 10%, I could have cut that to around 10 gallons @ $4.00/gal. I bought one 7# pouch of stabilizer ($17.00) and used less than half of it. I used less than a half gallon of Muriatic acid at $6.99/gal. And finally, about half a box of 20 Mule Team @ $6.00 a box. That's it!
Total: $40.00 of chlorine, plus $8.00 of stabilizer, plus $3.00 of MA, and $3.00 of Borax.
$54.00 TOTAL! Your prices may differ a bit, plus your swim season is longer, but your pool is slightly smaller, and I'm willing to bet your results will be in line with mine.
Ask your husband for some patience. (That's probably the REAL "Step One" in doing the conversion, as I
now seem to recall.)
You are on track to save BIG $$$$$$.

"Temporary inconvenience; permanent improvement!" Great job!
