Ecostar SP3400vs Drive Stalled Error

I had high hopes for 2021, but after returning home after a long weekend away I realized the pool pump was not running. And of course, the dreaded pump stalled error on my Ecostar VS pump. It has happened occasionally in the past, but turning on and off the power rectified the problem. No luck this time. When I cycle the power the error goes away and you can hear the pump try to start (1 second hum). This happens about the three times and then the error comes back. I checked the impeller (clear and free), All the wires are installed and tight. The bonding is also connected. I also could turn the impeller and furthermore I was able to insert an Allen wrench in the back of the pump cover and turn the motor.

So, I think it is going to be the dreaded drive. I contacted Hayward via email and hope I hear from them tomorrow. But the pump is out of warranty. It is 4.5 years old. I know, I know, I am a lucky it lasted this long. But I don't feel lucky. Any advice out there? Is the Tristar pump a direct replacement where I wouldn't have to replumb everything? Do you think it is worth replacing the drive or the entire thing? Would you upgrade to Pentair?

Any advice is appreciated. By the way, the pump did have a surge protector and usually ran on lower RPMs. Also, we live outside Orlando FL.

You could also install a Century V-Green 2.7 motor to that existing pump. They cost about the same as the part needed to repair your existing pump. They are the same rated horsepower as the motor that came with your Hayward. I do this about 3 - 4 times a year when the drives go bad on a Hayward pump. There is an automation adapter that would be necessary to have it communicate with your AquaLogic. It is part #2517501-002.

Great, I spoke to Hayward and they gave me somewhat of a discount on a Tristar pump, so I ordered it but it has not arrived. Luckily the weather has been cool. Glad it is a direct swap. BTW, I do have automation for the Spa and have an Aqua Logic 4. The pump is direct wired to the relays for the 220V. The aqua logic and my old Ecostar were never joined via the "network". It would be nice when I turn on the Spa the motor's RPM would automatically increase. Currently I have to increase the RPM's manually if I run the Spa. I think I was told it couldn't be done? Any pointers for me? My aqua logic is about 14 years old, although I replaced the circuit board about 5 years ago (not sure revision #). Is there an easy and cost effective replace to be able to connect to the internet or Wifi? I guess I should probably start another thread.....
 
To truly be able to use a Hayward wi-fi control, and still do the things your PS4 does now, you would need to upgrade to an OmniLogic, though new things are still coming out.

There is a way to use relay and valve input signals to change speed on an EcoStar/TriStar. It is cost effective, but not particularly easy. If you have your manual the instructions are in it. The options are limited with a PS4. If the software revision is correct on your circuit board, you should be able to program 2 speeds with the AquaLogic. It does require a small communication cable to be installed between the pump and control. Again, instructions are in the manual. The new pump will come with a manual and all of the Hayward pumps I have installed recently have had the cable in the box.

The best thing you could do would be to have a local Hayward service center do this install. The factory should be able to point you to one.
 
With a PL you can add antenna and use communication cable to control amd set whatever times amd speeds you want. I rarely do wireless, i prefer am additional wired keypad in the house by the pool entrance. I use the additional relays for waterfalls, landscape lighting, etc
