So my water keeps from going clear to hazy and dull and occasionally cloudy. My water had been clear all season except for at opening in May. Ever since Fathers Day weekend it keeps going from clear to hazy/cloudy and I can get it clear again but days later just goes back. The only difference since Fathers day is we got a dolphin escape and it does work great but you can see paths it makes where it is dirty. I use the fine filter as well but I do think it kicks alot up. We had a bad storm Fathers day weekend and that's the same day I got the dolphin and the next day this all started. I posted a week ago about this mystery dirt/pollen that keeps collecting on the pool floor every morning. Every morning I find piles of mystery dirt on the edges of my pool. Ive tried skimmer socks and they turn yellow and do collect a bunch of dirt but it is still everyday dealing with this and my water isn't how it use to be. I have kept my chlorine at a 7 consistently for 2 weeks Ive been testing the chlorine 3 times a day and adding liquid chlorine only and really even on a sunny day only lose at the most 2ppm. I did 2 OCLT last week and passed. I was bad and tried clarifier thinking if it was pollen maybe it would help and it did for 4 days then went back looking weird. I backwashed 3 days ago and my backwash was green. I am fed up with the way the water looks and started a slam lastnight. I slammed to 16 and was a 13.5 this morning with 0.5cc. I had to work a 12 hr shift today but my husband added more chlorine and used the dolphin to clean the mystery dirt or now algae. By the time I had come home at 7 the mystery dirt already returned and that never happens. We brushed and it was kicking up green clouds. The water did look more clear this evening though. So this has to be algae right? Im thinking maybe it just hasn't turned green because I havent let my fc get too low? We do have alot of trees and I find pollen flakes from catkins in the pool but it seems to be leaning more on algae now. My question is would it be best to use either my cordless vaccuum during the slam or vaccuum to waste? Or can I use my dolphin? If I vaccuum to waste I will need to add more water since I just backwashed 3 days ago and we haven't had any rain. I plan on taking my ladder out tomorrow and cleaning it out. What is the best way to clean the inside? Also do I need to clean my kids pool toys and floats during the slam and how do I do that??? I just want my clear sparkling water back 😵‍💫

My chemisty levels before the slam

Ph - 7.8
Alkanity - 100
Cya - 40
Ch - 150

First picture is what my water use to look like , 2nd the hazy dull situation and 3rd is today.

Heres the SLAM instructions. Maintain the SLAM until the water is clear, you pass an OCLT, and have less than 0.5CC. Its not a one time thing, probably gonna take a few days if things are green.

Thank you I plan on continuing the slam until I pass the 3 criteria. I added more chlorine back to a 16 again tonight when I got home at 7. It's not green, it just isn't normal.

Disassemble as best as you can without breaking anything. Any areas you can't open consider injecting some chlorine directly into with something like a syringe or turkey baster.

do I need to clean my kids pool toys and floats during the slam and how do I do that?
I would. Just scrub them down with a simple bleach & water solution and let them dry really well out in the sun. That should be enough.

Ok I took the ladder out. I opened the plugs on it to drain the water out and I have never smelled anything so bad 🤢 Green yellow gunk and bugs came out. Think I found the issue though....

I wish I could shout this from a mountain top. It's so common but hard to believe for many owners. I'm glad you got it. :goodjob: Perhaps that will be the turning point.

How do I get this gunk out? Can I use a hose into the plugs to rinse it and then put chlorine in it??? My better option could be to go buy a new ladder highly considering it...

All of the above. Try to pour//squirt liquid chlorine into the tiny areas you can't reach. Let it swoosh around for a bit, and give it a good rinse. Let it dry really well. You may need to repeat some areas if they are really bad. A syringe or turkey baster might help.

Thanks it is starting to rain so when it ends I'll go get to work. I am still in the SLAM so hoping with this ladder out it will help.

Ok this maybe a dumb question but I am trying to make sure I clean everything that could have algae on it so I don't have to do this again. I use a solar cover at night. Do I need to clean that too or since I have been putting it on at night with the SLAM levels would that be enough to kill any algae on it??

Ok I passed my OCLT this morning. But I still have some algae or dirt it is hard to say. It rained all night lastnight so I am not sure if it just dirt and debri in the pool, dead algae, or now I'm concerned maybe I have mustard algae. The debri is brownish yellow. When I brushed it turned into a yellow brown cloud, yesterday my cloud was green but I had no sun and today the sun is out in full force. My pool mainly gets full sun from 9am til 5pm. I do have a lot of trees as well. The debri is mostly collected on the edges of the pool and some in the middle. Pool is looking better. My problem I am debating is if I should just do the mustard algae SLAM or keep the normal SLAM. I also noticed I have green gunk in my site glass but my psi has not gone over 15/16. My baseline is 15. Would it be ok to backwash today since the rain made my water level go up a tad? I tried taking pics of this debri but it is hard with the sun and still no ladder back in pool.

You certainly can backwash if you like. Even though you appear to have passed the OCLT, the residual material in the water is enough to say keep the SLAM going for now. Normal SLAM level, not Mustard level just yet. The pics look like the water is still a bit hazy, or is it just me on the computer? How does it look there in person?

I can see to the bottom perfectly but the color still seems off. I put my dolphin in and I can see the clean tracks he is making through the debri/algae.

I plan on backwashing once Frank (my dolphin) is done. If I am continuing the SLAM I need to check my FC soon but is adding the chlorine before the backwash pointless? And could I add it with Frank in there?
