Do you dip for each test OR fill a jar and do tests with a single container of pool w

While we are on the topic of testing, wondering how dangerous these reagents can really be. The bottle the CYA testing reagent comes in has a pretty dismal warning on it. Is anyone wearing gloves, protective eye wear when testing their water?

I use a sports drink bottle to get my water, but about to upgrade to a Wal-Mart ketchup bottle lol

I fill a plastic cup full and take it in the house to test at the sink. I sample dip right at the surface above my steps where circulation is poor and the depth is shallow because I want to test the water under the worst-case conditions. I also test when the pump has been off for a few hours and just before it turns on and injects chlorine for the evening. If it passes the tests under these conditions, I know the water isn't getting any worse at other times of the day.

I use one of these and it is great for both taking the sample and dispensing it into the test tube:

I use a 12oz plastic cup, taller than wide.
There is no issue with the reagent bottles laying down on their side. Just make sure the caps are on snug so they don’t leak.
No need to wear gloves as they won’t hurt you and there is minimal amount of contact with them. Just dump them down the sink or in the grass when you’re done.

I buy salt from Leslie's and they have a plastic water bottle for water testing that I asked for (these bottles are free). So if you have a Leslie's nearby, you could always ask them for a water testing bottle. It has one of those push down type tops so easy for squirting water into the vials.

One or two can be very dangerous...

I don't have the MSDS link for the Taylor kits but I do have the MSDS link for the Clear Choice Labs kits which are basically similar to the Taylor kits. The Clear Choice Labs kits are what we Aussies use as the Taylor kits are difficult to source DownUnder.

Anyway have a read and check out the Salt testing kit chemicals. Our kits here in Australia are supplied with protective mats and latex gloves so that the Salt test can be performed relatively safely as one of the chemicals is quite toxic and possibly a carcinogen .
