Hello all,
I have an in-ground pool with a 3/4 HP pump. I added a Vingli vacuum pool cleaner and found that it will only work if I shut off flow to the skimmer and drain. I'd obviously like to have the skimmer and drain running along with the pool vacuum. My question is should I install a larger pump?
Thanks!

@JamesW Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the suction in my system isn't strong enough to power the vacuum if either the drain or the skimmer is open. Would you suggest a larger pump, or do you think something else is going on in my pool?
@mas985 Thanks also for the response. Same question.. Do you think a new pump is in order? If so can you suggest a size?

Upsizing the pump will require a variable speed pump which are not cheap and may not actually solve your problem depending on your plumbing setup.

When I had a suction side cleaner and a 1.85 THP single speed pump, I still had to close off the suction in the MD and skimmers. An even larger pump may have solved this issue but given the cost of electricity here in CA, it didn't make sense to run a high wattage pump just to run the cleaner. So what I did is to purchase a robotic cleaner (i.e. fully autonomous) that did not require the main pump to be running and only uses about 200 watts. This ended up being far more economical over the long term.

A robotic cleaner might be a better solution for you as well.
