DIY 32x16 ish pool on steep slope

Appreciate the kind comments guys! Made some decent progress over the weekend despite the crazy hot weather, but at least the pool is there to jump in to cool off every now and again, although the water is now approaching the upper 80s.

Lol at the video of the big guy busting that pool. Watched a few other similar videos. Kinda scary how easy it is to rip these pool open!

Friday afternoon I got the holes dug for the deck support and the crew that were here installing fiber for high speed internet to my house were nice enough to do a trench for me for the permanent power for the pool (currently running extension cords).

As I started placing the 2x6 supports, I quickly realized that they had to be pretty much buried in order to be level with the 2x6 supports by the pool. Since the fiber crew had left their Ditch Witch at my shop with the keys in it, I figured they wouldn't mind me borrowing it real quick to knock out a ditch to set the 2x6s in. :D

That machine made quick work out of trenching for the boards, and with everything set, we mixed up and set all 11 6x6 posts in cement. 3 bags per hole.

This morning I started installing the 2x4 supports for the decking and made good progress until I ran out of material.

I just need a dozen or so pieces to finish up the corner.

WOW again! You do such nice work!

LOL at "I'm sure they won't mind" Hey they left the keys so............... That sure did do quick work of it!

I like how the tree is going to provide some shade.

It IS nice to just jump in when you get hot!

I continue to be amazed by your skill and planning! For an 'interim' pool, it sure is going to be a beaut! My favorite of today's photos are all the pink float toys! So girlie and so fun!

It's great fun to see anything you build! A real treat!

Hey guys!

Made some excellent progress this past week. Got the corner all wrapped up early last week.

Another angle from the 2nd story bedroom. Did I mention I have a lot of grass to mow? :D

Yesterday morning I went to Lowe's to pick up the decking. I basically had 4 choices as follows:

1. Standard grade wood decking - $10 per 16' board
2. 2x6 standard grade lumber - $10 per 16' board
3. Premium grade wood decking - $19 per 16' board
4. Composite decking - $30 per 16' board

Being that this is an economy build, I went with door #2. Standard 2x6 treated boards are much thicker than wood decking, so that is going to give me the most solid deck.

So I picked up a 64 back each of 12' and 16' treated 2x6s boards:

Last night after working on it by myself, I was maybe 1/3 done. I'm screwing all the boards with 3" screws, which adds quite a bit of time!

After spending another full day today, I'm at about 80% done. The runs get longer the further I get.

All in all a pretty productive weekend.

That is a LOT of grass for sure! Love the views from the upper windows!

You got a LOT done this weekend! NICE job! The wire pull will help you with ease of mind I am sure.

I bet you jumped in that pool a few times this weekend!

I got the deck completed except for some fascia boards toward the pool. I'm going to cut off the outside legs of the Intex ladder and drill holes in the deck to mount it. Since the height from the deck to pool floor is about 60", I need some sort of spacers on the pool floor to raise it up about 6". Any suggestions on what to use that I can pick up at a hardware or tractor supply store?

2 large 6x6x6 heavy rubber cubes that sink and won't leave a stain on the liner would be ideal, but that's not exactly an off the shelf item. :)

Another option might be to build out a low step from the deck corner and mount the ladder to it.

Thanks Kim. Yes, I did some measurements and I think I can add a step to get the proper height without any issues. Didn't think about the possibility of algae.

I finally completed the deck tonight. Turned out pretty nice I think.

Still need to trim the outside edge, but I still contemplating extending the deck and doing an "octagon" wrap around the tree.

LOL You know where I send quite a bit of my time here on TFP - How to clear algae. I don't want you to have to come over there!

Neat idea about the deck under the tree. Of course you will need to build benches around the tree also!

Appreciate the suggestions on steps. My challenge is that the height from the deck to the pool floor is 58 3/4" and just about all the above ground pool to deck steps I have seen maxes out at 56".

I think I have a solution however. I'll build out a lower platform right in the corner of the deck, to bring the deck height down to 56". Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on that tonight.

I went ahead and picked up those curved steps linked above. I made a small corner platform and installed the steps in front of them.

I also did some major trimming to the large tree between the house and the pool as I was getting a ton of leaves in the pool every day, and it isn't even fall yet.

I'll probably trim is even more, but I need a ladder as my pole saw won't reach any higher. :)
