Disco Pool

How do I avail of the discount by being a TFP supporter? There is a coupon code but not sure where to get them.

I see you went with the the Silver support. You should receive a separate email from "[email protected]" with a gift code. I got one right after I got confirmation of the support donation from TroublesfreePools. It will be separate from the "Thanks for your Support" email from [email protected])

You should have received an email shortly after you donated (THANKS for your support!). Look in your junk email. If you cannot find it let me know and I will get another one sent to you.

Unfortunately, I can’t find it anymore. Will greatly appreciate a new code and thank you in advance!

Here’s hoping plaster day comes within the next two weeks. I’m starting to research as to who should do the initial startup of balancing the pool. At the same time, I’m wondering if I could just do it the TFP way (my tester kit arrived, thank you, guys!) plus YouTube. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, inspection is this Tuesday and plaster Thursday. Acid wash on Friday. They’re offering $450 for a 3 day of initial balancing. Apparently, it’s not part of the contract. Pool school and equipment start will proly be the week of July 12th. PB said we can get in the water as soon as it’s filled since there’s not going to be a lot of plaster dust for pebble sheen. Oh, btw, I’m joining the Blue Smurf group :)

What to get clear on something.............they are saying they are going to plaster next week with would be 7/9 BUT the equipment will be 7/12???? That is a big, fat NOPE! The equipment HAS to be running or ready to run before the plaster is installed. That way as soon as the water reaches the middle of the skimmer opening you can fill the pump and filter and start filtering the water. If there is ANY plaster dust and it is not brushed up and filtered out it could stick to your new plaster and cause it to not look as good as possible.

We can/will get you started on balancing your pool the proper way.

Wire and Kim, I was thinking about that. From what I’ve read, I got you all to guide me the whole balancing process. I’ll reread the ABC of pool again and again until I can get to the end. It usually makes me fall asleep after a while :). I’ll clear the equipment start up. I was told I can jump in the pool right after it fills up since the pebble sheen won’t have much plaster dust compared to pebble fina and others. That’s great news we don’t have to wait for. Of course I will brush and vacuum as needed. Thanks for the feedback!

Here is a plaster pool start up guide:
There is a pdf card that is VERY useful to print out and have on hand.

I plan to get used to the new test kit and practice on our water. Any tips on how to start my chemistry test? I’d like to do it with my beloved wifey. Will tell her it’s part of our July 4th date ;)

I also remember someone having a spreadsheet to record pool chemical readings. Can anyone share it with me? Would appreciate that a lot! Thanks in advance!

If you don't have a speed stir, get one. Makes testing much easier. The tests can be precise, so take your time. The first few times I did the calcium hardness test I was getting really high readings bc I was putting the drops in too fast and I guess either not doing complete drops or not counting right.
Download the pool math app for tracking chemical readings. It's great and you can link it here if you ever have any questions.

Pool Math downloaded! I believe the speed stir came with the test kit, haven’t opened the package yet though so I’ll let you know if I have it. I’ll link pool math app once I’m doing the real test. Thanks!

Do not bother testing for CYA as it has to be added so no need to waste those regents.

Take your time and do it one test at a time. It will take you a bit as it is your first time. Once you get used to doing the tests you will fly through them. PLEASE don't think it will take near as long as your first few times!

I like to hold me pH test in front of a white plate (a white wall or such will work as well) and move the tube back and forth to help me dial in the color match.

Color changes for some of the tests-some of them will "flash" color then go back. Keep going until the color change sticks.

-FC-once it goes clear you are done. It may go pick after sitting for a bit. Ignore this change.

Here are the things I bought to prepare for a possible July 10th start up:
1. 2 boxes of Kem Tek chlorinating liquid (256 gallons from Lowe’s?
2. 1 box of Kem Tek Muriatic Acid (256 gallons)
3. Pool Time Chlorine Stabilizer from HD (balance
4. 32 once’s 2-pack Jack’s Magic Magenta Stuff
5. Sure Soft Pool Salt (40lbs)
I’m following the NPT procedures (thanks Kim!)

Do I need to buy the following as well?
1. Sodium Bicarbonate (what brand, how much?)
2. pH increaser/decreaser (isn’t this MA?)
3. Calcium Hardener

It’s exciting but at the same time quite overwhelming and scary. I don’t want to mess this up. My PB hasn’t given me anything except that one page basic steps at the start of the whole process plus the offer of $450 start up or ask someone else to do it. He said it won’t void any warranty if I ask others to do it but pebble tech will void lifetime warranty if water chemistry is the reason behind plaster damage.

I am all in on the TFP way so I entrust my start-up and overall pool health to all you kind people. Thank you for the past and future tips and continued support!

You are on the right track!

-Chlorine-make sure to check the date stamp. You don't want it to be older than 3 months. Make sure they store it in a shady area. My Lowes stores it in the outside, covered garden area.

-Muriatic acid-also get something to store it in that is PLASTIC and vented. M.A. needs to be stored away from metal (will cause rust) and away from chlorine as their fumes do not play well together. I keep mine in a plastic bucket outside behind the barn where no critters go. If you have kids think of a way to keep them out of it.

-Do you have your test kit yet? If so please list it in your signature. If not order it now. You will need to test your fill water so we can guide you on needing any CH.

-The other two things in your bottom group are not needed. The acid takes the place of the pH +/-. Sodium Bicarbonate is just baking soda. I bought a big bag of it and have not used it so............don't bother buying any yet.
