DFW Texas Pool & Spa Build (Round 2)

When it's the right time for him (which may be never). I judge by people's interest/comments whether I mention TFP at all. Some I know will be fully unreceptive.

I walked into a pool store yesterday looking for a fitting and saw a woman walking out with a box filled with chemicals and 2 boys with her who's hands were also full. I was soooo tempted to preach the gospel to her but held my tongue. I need someone to keep the pool store open for my occasional needs. lol.

Yeah I could definitely understand that. I think everyone in my small neighborhood that has a pool or is having one built pays someone to do the upkeep for the low low price of 170$ lol, but then again my neighbors I tried to explain to them about the ozone but they bought the builders sales pitch instead of wanting to take my word and research. To each their own!

Let the MUD begin!! LOL

Now for your homework--------go out and measure everything. Add about 6 inches for the gunite and plaster. Is it wide, long, deep, ect enough. Is it ALL there? We just had one where they forgot the tanning ledge :(

There's also supposed to be 3 steps here but this is looking like a slope. I assume they can form the steps when they gunite?

That bothers me! It seems to me they should have formed the steps with the steel. I would insist on them doing so.

We had one last summer where they were turning a beach entry into steps. Thankfully the PO was there and stopped them and they were able to fix it before they got too far into it.

You HAVE to be there when they shoot your gunite. PLEASE find a way so you can keep an eye on it all.

The gutter..........it will be interesting what he says about that. It might take some extra work (money) to fix that one but it can be done. I am thinking adding a turn and run of pipe to take the water there, where ever there is for your yard.

Let us know what the PB says.

I would actually not be concerned with the lack of steel in the steps themselves. The structural portion of the pool is the outermost shell. It is pretty common for steps not to have steel. Ours also did not, nor did some of our bench areas (others did). It certainly doesn't hurt to have steel in the steps but doesn't seem to be an issue without. Clearly as Kim said, you need to ensure steps occur vs a beach entry but I'm sure you will be present during the shoot to do so (homeowners should try to be present for all big parts of the build if at all possible to avoid issues.)

Yes I will defiantly be here, I work nights so I'm actually home all during the day. However I just caught this when the workers went to lunch. I asked the PB about the steps before the steel and he said they could form at gunite but just seems odd how they put the steel. Also I'm thinking the only thing we can do is relocate the gutter back a couple feet so they can run it through the decking. Last thing I want is the gutter shooting roof water and granule straight into the pool. He will be here soon so I'll advise what he comes up with.

Yeah, the expectation would be that they've fully planned out the water drainage scenario. I'd ask them to show it to you! Which could be revealing. You would want that downspout going straight into a 4" PVC line, under the deck and out to the appropriate drainage route.

Alright so the PB advised they will form the steps with the gunite and they do it like that all the time with no issues. He also advised there is room for the downspout to go into the decking and come out where the rest of the drainage will. So we will see if true!

My top two steps where done with steel, and the bottom two formed without steel. Actually it worked out pretty nice, as I was able to spec out how wide, how curved and so forth, and they formed them up while I watched. Also, I have a gutter that is being tied into the 4" main drainage line under the decking. no biggee. I have gutters elsewhere around the house that go into pipes/drains under the flowerbeds etc. No biggee.

Okay a little issue. The gutter I noticed is going right into the skimmer. No way to plumb that down through the decking. Any ideas? Told the PB and he's on his way over so will discuss it with him as well.

Run the downspout directly into the ground. That's code in Frisco . The downspouts are fed directly into the ground. Maybe that will help.
