Is anybody familiar with Deep Heating for an in ground pool? I have a 14 x 28 foot in ground pool. It came with a feature called Deep Heating. It has nothing to do with a pool heater. At both ends of the pool it has return jets on the bottom of my pool. One on the shallow end, oneon the deep end. This is in addition to the three return jets my pool already has. The theory is, deep heating allows for greater circulation and thusly heats the pool up faster, more evenly, than conventional return jets alone. With that out of the way, one of my deep heating jets doesn't push any water out. I can only assume that it's clogged with something. My question is, can I put a shop vac hose over my deep heating hole and try and suck the clog out of my deep heating jet? I know it would fill my shop vac quickly but I don't know how else to unclog that jet? The bad jet is on the deep end of my pool. Obviously, every precaution would be taken to avoid electrocuting myself using a shop vac. There is no separate line for my deep heating jets. Its all part of the jet return line. Any ideas? Thanks for your advice?

I have "deep heat" returns on the bottom of my pool as well. 3 returns coming from 1 additional line to the pool. This was a $600 "option" when I had my pool built.

Do yours actually have a jet in them? Mine are just open PVC pipes (threaded). I see no real issue with what you propose but is it possible to blow them from the other end?

Well, I can easily see that a "current" is rising from the shallow end of one deep heat return but I cannot see a "current'" rising from the other in the deep end. Even though it's deeper, I should still see a swirl of water as it rises from the deep heat return. Even on the deep end. I'd go in to check it but the water's too cold now. What do you mean do I have a "jet" in them? They're not like the jet return style that I have on the sides of my pool. I can't direct the flow of water but I'm not sure what you mean by "do you have jets in them?"

Tie a ribbon or something to a pool pole & put it infront of the jet to see if theres any movement.
I think he meant his don’t have return fittings on them - do yours?

Ad,

I doubt you have a problem.. I think it is more the fact that is easier see "movement" in the shallow end than it is in the deep end.

Please let us know what you find.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok - I thought you were sure it was blocked. The shallower one will have a LOT more water with mine as well. My deep one is almost 9 feet deep and the shallow is like 3 feet deep. That is a big pressure differential. I am sure all of mine are working though since I can swim down and feel the hot water coming out. You can also have someone stand on the shallow end one and the water will all direct to the deep one.

Late is responding, but no water coming out of deep end. It comes out of shallow end great, but not the deep end. Dead. However, if I close and open the valve to my deep heat returns after about six times I can get water out of the deep end and shallow end return. But once the pool motor shuts down for the night, when it starts up the next morning, only the shallow end has water coming out. Crazy.

Maybe your deep end return line is partially clogged?

I have these "deep heating" returns in my pool. They are activated by a manual Jandy valve just downstream of the automatic valve that switches between pool and spa returns. When they're in use, the chlorinator isn't in the active plumbing loop, so I use them very rarely.

Mine are just threaded openings with no jets/return fittings installed, so it is easy for debris to fall into them. About twice a year I turn them on for a few minutes, just to flush all the debris out of the lines. Quite a bit comes out.

Hi, I appreciate your reply. While investigating further, I read that you are supposed to close off your regular return jets and then open the deep heating jets. Evidently it forces more water out the deep heating jets. Otherwise you're not getting enough pressure to flow through the deep heating jets when all your other jets are running at the same time. I will try that and see if that improves the flow of my deep heating jets. Thanks.
