Is it because it just cant handle the heavy dirt i try to vacuum? or is there some other thing wrong with it? It looks fine but could it be that the material is too old? I found it in my backyard, my dad had it since...well...i have no idea. Does too much dirt make it prone to falling off? Cause I notice theres a long of gunk at the bottom when i open it. Im really hoping that thats the issue but i need someone to let me know if this perfectly fine looking material is just bad. Also is the pump good enough?

Also is the intake bit supposed to be upside down like that? The one i installed is in the complete opposite direction pointing up, and its very hard to move. (this isn't the one i installed i have another one)

Hi Pedro...Welcome TFP!

Sorry you haven't received any replies yet.

It is normal for some the DE to slough off the filter when opened for cleaning.

Can you post the make/model of the filter?

Let's get some fresh eyes on inquiry with a bump to the top of the queue.

Its a Sta-Rite System 2 Modular D.E. Filter PLDE48.

Not sure about the make though. Id have to go back on Monday to see. Its on the white sticker, I assume?

Oh, is it normal for DE to come off like that? I just put it on a few days ago before i opened it. Never seen that before.

It's a Pentair. The manual doesn't show the intake fitting.

@DThompson55 was working on one of these yesterday. Let's see if he can answer your question about the orientation of the intake...

As long as the filter isn’t passing and you are charging the filter with the correct amount of DE it should be fine. It almost looks like you opened the lid without draining the tank, causing a lot of DE to fall off. The modular DE cartridges are made of a different fabric than the traditional DE grids so stuff does fall off a little easier.

Oh, okay. So any dirt thats coming back out the return jet is because the filter cant handle what Im trying to collect, so i need to get another pump to vacuum out the waste? Ive been doing some research and thats what i came up with.

Gunk at the bottom of the filter is a combination of dirt and DE that has fallen off the cartridge. Is there an air-relief screen in the top of that cartridge. If not, it will send dirt back to the pool when vacuuming.
