CYA Testing

Definitely lighter. If it's metals and it's out of solution then the carts might tell more of the story because they've been filtering it.

So they aren't the best at metals, but both tests say low copper. And no blueness to the cartridge would agree with that.

I'm surprised there's no iron test. Do you have a Leslie's nearby ? Hit that up when you're going by. They do iron (albeit so-so like the rest of it. Lol).

Get some polyfil and stuff the skimmer. See if it turns brown. If you have any stuffed animals you're willing to donate you don't even have to go to hobby lobby. Just cut them open and steal the guts.

How long to leave the poly in before being able to tell? Here is a pic. Been in about 12 hours. Underneath the top the poly is still clean.

Here is round 2 from Leslie’s. Both my pool and Tap. Little curious that my Tap is higher in Copper and Iron yet pool is fine.

Just a sad reminder that leslies tests are so vague it's pretty useless. They have a +/- .3 variance at .3 for metals.

So 0 to .6 can be a total crud shoot that .2 (ok) says .5 (not ok), or vice versa.

It was worth a shot for a data point, and theoretically could be correct, but prolly not. Lol. With .4 tap you'd likely know it was high copper from staining in toilets/sinks.

Let them go for now. They will either get discolored or you can wring out iced tea if it's iron.

Here is what the Polly looked like this morning. When I took it out you can see in the one pic all that orange water spilled out onto the pool ledge.

That's about what we wanted to see from a small chunk of polyfill. Your cartridge was probably slowly slowly filtering some which is why it was clearing little by little. You can continue how you're doing, or rig up a bucket like the bottom of this link

Raising the FC a bit might make it slightly more green like it was at the start. If you get enough of it out, it'll sit blue on the fence again and hopefully rain will overflow you the rest of the way so that you have some wiggle room. I'd strongly consider a filter on the tap too when you need to top off. There's good stuffs in that link above. :)

I’ll read this today. Just want to clarify are you saying I should raise FC?

Yes as a one day experiment when you're around to see if it brings out more tint.

Maybe the tint lightened from the FC level returning to target range. Maybe the filter got some of it out. Maybe a little of both. Lol. But if raising the FC brings more out of solution again, you'll increase the polyfill efficiency.

Or it doesn't change the tint and it's just a waiting game trying to filter out what's there.

Would you say raise FC to SLAM level or just a little higher than target?

Maybe it’s my imagination but I don’t think so, because I think I saw improvement since Friday in the water. Could a day and a half of poly in the skimmer start to make an improvement? If so, I’d be more than happy to keep putting in poly every 24 hours over replacing water.
