Maybe I misunderstood that article I thought the poster used that to filter out the iron when he refilled

They did. It's mixed success because some hose water comes out like mud. Yours is much clearer than the terrible areas.

Some members have used the Pleatco Spa and Pool Sediment Filter Cartridge connected to a garden hose to filter fill water. Pleatco says the filter has 3 layers and will filter down to 5 microns.[4] Iron needs 3 micron filtering but some member claim it has worked.


So maybe the .5 filters are enough. Again, it's certainly not going to hurt to try given the PITA alternative.

Still can’t believe how much a difference from 3 days of poly in a filter basket has made on the color. Is there a point of diminishing returns? Seems like the poly didn’t collect as much today, and I can see I still have some ways to go before all cleared up.

Oh yeah. Its just like filtering the last bit out at the end of slam. It takes many many tries to catch that little bit that's dancing around in water that's mixing.

So, I looks like I will have to add some water this weekend. I was hoping to get the pool completely blue before having to add so I would I could really see if my tap water is adding any iron. But with no rain in the last 9 days and no rain expected for at least the next few days, Mother Nature has been no help. So, knowing the iron in my tap, if any, is soluble, is there anything better to attach to the hose then the Pentek Housing and micron filter?

Mother Nature has been no help.

She's a brat like that. Have too much water and need to drain ? We get 6 inches in a week. Need to fill some ? 3 weeks of blazing sunshine.

Hands down it's the best bet. With any luck it will help.

Almost there. This Poly stuff is Gold. I’d pay a lot more for this stuff

You can try filling through the skimmer & hopefully the polyfill & your filter will catch most of it. May wanna go very slowly.

Almost there. Still slowly pulling some iron out with the poly but looking good.

I think I’m about 100% blue and clear. Any remaining iron I may be pulling out may not even be making a difference in appearance at this point, but I’ll continue with the poly in the skimmer until nothing else comes out. Thanks for all the help!

Good Morning,

Im in the middle of a SLAM just over a week and even though my CC and OCLT are always passing still can’t get past that partial green and cloudy stage ( can see bottom of pool but still green and cloudy). So im questions my CYA number. Right now I believe it’s 50. Anyway, I read in 2 different posts about the test where one said first step to combine R-13 and pool water in tube, the “shake then wait 30 seconds”. I also read where it said “shake for 30 SECONDS then wait”. Not sure if that would even make a difference but is there?
