I feel silly asking but couldn't find anything indicating either way - newbie and first time opening a pool, adding cya this afternoon using the sock method, actually a knee high, in front of the return - can I rinse and reuse the knee high for future cya application or should it be discarded and use a new one for every cya application? TIA!

Yes you can re-use it. I do all the time. It may deteriorate eventually.

Adding CYA has to be a slow process.....For years when I add CYA....I'll fill a 5-gallon bucket up to the 4-gallon line and let 2-pounds of CYA sit overnight. Next day: Stir with a long long-handled brush. You'll have a milky creamy dissolved CYA - water mix on top. No granules. Pump running...Pour the pure liquid into a skimmer. Stop pouring when you see granules coming up from the bottom sludge.... Refill the bucket with water...wait a few hours, do it again...and again, and so forth. Leave the pump running for a good while and don't backwash the filter for several days. Measure CYA after 3-4 days....If you need more than 2 pounds, do it all over again...... It's best not to overshoot the amount of CYA needed, so slow and careful is good.
