I used tablets all summer last year and I swear I tested cya pretty high at the end of the season and I was planning on partially draining. Upon opening today, I'm measuring <30ppm. How?? Am I measuring wrong?

CYA can degrade over the winter. You got a freebie with no draining required.

Be sure the pool was well mixed (run pump for a day, brush the pool) prior to testing if the pool was 'closed' for the winter.

Yeah, you’re probably measuring rain/snow-melt water that’s sitting on top of the pool water. Also possible that bacteria consumed it and produced ammonia but that would be pretty easy to figure out because you won’t be able to get any chlorine to hold until the ammonia is all oxidized.

Baffling results.
Oct. 28th, replaced liner, slammed and let drift to target FC, added CYA, polyquat, closed. FC 7 pH 7.4 TA 90 CH 100 CYA 40 Today, safety cover still on. For grins, removed corner to take a look see (looks great!), grabbed a bottle of water from the pool to test. FC 0 (Not surprising) pH 7.2...
