I have pre cast concrete coping. I have been planning for the past two years to resurface and replace the coping. This is what it currently looks like: IMG_20220831_131725[1].jpg

I spoke to some contractors and have gotten some options for the new coping like brick, travertine and I think precast concrete (this was last year so I have to revisit what was said). But I wanted to know what are the pros and cons of each and how should I go about making my decision?

I think the precast concrete I have now is fine. I purchased the home/pool a few years ago and I am guessing the coping would of lasted longer if the seal between the deck and the coping had been better maintained by the previous owner and maybe by me. So I think if I get precast concrete coping again and replace the seal every 4 to 5 years, it will last me a long time. So the look of it is fine and the maintenance seems minimal. The cost doesn't seem too crazy either. The other choices have other pros and cons. For instance brick seems cheaper but I am guessing it is more costly to maintain. And travertine seems to look nicer and is more expensive in general. Am i on the right track here? And is precast concrete popular or is it an outdated material?

Are you also replacing your deck to match the new coping?

I don't think you currently have precast coping. It looks like poured in place coping into forms done along with your concrete deck.

No, I will be doing the deck in the future. I haven't thought about the deck yet. I think in place concrete is fine for the deck. I'm not too picky and it works now. But let me know if there are good reasons to do something else.

I believe the pool contractors have said the coping precast concrete. I think it's confusing that they painted it all the same color and it's hard to tell.

They did mention the new precast concrete coping is smaller. They told me this when I asked to just replace 1 or 2 of the coping because they have holes. They said the nose of the new ones will be smaller and won't line up with the old ones. Also, the new ones are not as wide and they may need to put multiple when replacing one. So maybe the new ones aren't as low maintenance as what I have now?

I will have to double check on this, but I don't think anyone mentioned in place concrete.
