With the current price of chlorine just wondering if it’s more economical to switch my chlorine based system to a salt water generator. Any experiences?
Those of us who have converted to salt utilizing a salt water generator (SWG) are typically very happy. Unfortunately, with the increased cost of chlorine/bleach, we are also seeing SWGs shoot-up in price as well. Keep your eye out for deals though. Discount Salt Pools is a nice website to start shopping so you can get some ideas.
You want to find a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG) where the cell is sized at least 2x your pool's volume. This is what we *always* recommend.
One big advantage of a SWG is you can go way on vacation for a week or two and know your pool is getting its chlorine daily.

You also need to test you water the TFP method with one of the recommended test kits. If you go the salt pool route you'll also need the
k-1766 salinity test kit. test kits compared
Use the K-1766 test Before you add salt, you will be VERY surprised on how much salt you already have..
I Love and recommend SWG to everyone... The bigger the better.. you can get 60k SWG for $200 more than a 40k right now.. Well worth going to a 60k... I just installed a Circupool RJ60k on my 15,000 gallon pool, only a little bigger than yours... Running it at 30% 4 hours a day right now...
I’d pay 2x what liquid chlorine costs to keep my SWCG. The utter convenience and the “I don’t have to worry about my chlorine” aspect is just too good to pass up.
