I'm thinking about adding a Circupool Total Balance Ph c02 on a New Build Gunite pool. I'm in California and we have hard water. Also, feedback on the Circupool Equipment?

I like my Pentair IntellipH (IpH) acid dosing system. It is a companion to Pentair's IntelliChlor (IC) chlorine system, and the IC must be installed in order to use the IpH.

There are other brands/systems, too, if a Pentair IC is not in the cards. And full disclosure, currently there is a known issue with the IntellipH that causes it and the IC to stop working. Pentair is fixing the problem under warranty, but we're hoping they'll eventually solve it permanently. In the meantime, we can explain how to solve it yourself. Other systems require a bit of DIY as well.

Also of note, since the IntelliChlor stops working in cold water, the IpH will, too. I've rewired mine to avoid that issue, but it's another DIY dealio. Other stand-alone acid dosing systems don't have this limitation, but the IpH has some other niceties unique to it that you don't get with the other brands. Trade-offs.

I, too, have high TA, and without my IpH I'd be looking at dosing acid several times a week. With my IpH, I fill it a few times a year, and it maintains a very stable pH every hour. So now that I've got its few foibles figured out, I wouldn't be happy without it, nor would I trade it for another brand.

I can give you more details if you want to go down this path...

Should I reconsider the Pool equipment I was considering installing in my new build? I want to make sure I get this right and dialed in
Sounds like it. Two of our experts are recommending using acid for your hard water, not CO2. You're going to need a good test kit. You should buy one of the two we recommend. Then run the ph, TA and CH tests and post the results here. And fill in your signature as best you can, so we know what we're dealing with. That would give us better data with which to advise you.

Yep. I don't know anything about CO2. But I do know that muriatic acid works, and I can buy it from any one of at least three places within 5 minutes of my pool, seven days a week, 7am-10pm. I doubt the same could be said for CO2 tanks...

Another plus for acid: if the automation fails, or power goes out, or whatever, I can still dispense acid, in minutes, manually, easily. Can the same be said for CO2? Would a jug of acid on hand be a backup for a CO2 system failure? I wouldn't know, but you should always have a backup plan for automation, regardless of what or how you're automating.

I posted 3-D images of my soon-to-be New Build if you would like to check them out.

Stunning!

BTW, water falling into the pool from the spa will also contribute to pH rise. Another reason to automate the pH.

My Plumber is connecting a PVC Pipe with the pool Equipment where I would drop acid Tablets. I'm thankful he mentioned this piece
