It's possible This Thread belongs under the chemistry area, as it's my first post it's here. I opened my pool a week and a half ago, and when I did, the pump motor was gone. I've had some issues with the previous pump and so I made the decision to pull the trigger on a pump motor combo. While I waited on it, I put some algaecide in the pool and dropped a recirculating pump into the shallow end and it did a great job of eliminating the algae.

I got the new pump and motor installed it seems to be working really well. I corrected the alkalinity and the pH, added some stabilizer to bring it up to level, and tossed in some Shock.
I attached my pureline SWCG, and fired it up. This has been my pattern the previous two years, which is because that's when I bought my SWCG. Both of the two previous years, my pool has cleared right up and my water was crystal clear.

My water is currently very cloudy and when I turn on the SWCG, it creates a large amount of foam. I've tested the water myself, that looks good, I had it tested by a nearby Pool Company, that also looked good. The generator is made by PureLine, I have searched for this issue in the forums with no luck. The chlorine generator seems to think that my salt is too high, and frankly I was testing it with a strip. The system thinks it's about 5100 ppm, I think it's about 3100 ppm (from strip). This weekend I ordered a digital tester, that reports 3200 ppm, which agrees with what the pool company provided. When I test the water my chlorine is zip. So clearly the generator is not creating chlorine.

I can list my values, but pH, alkalinity, hardness, stabilizer, phosphate, and salt all seem to be within acceptable ranges. If I turn the generator on, I get foam, if I turn it off it dissipates but never completely clears. The water does not clear.

I know that the instructions for the SWCG says that you can adjust the salinity reading but I don't exactly understand what it means. I do know that you can make a +/- 800 adjustment. I've done both and a couple in between, including resetting back to zero, which seems to have no effect. I welcome questions, and suggestions.

Welcome to TFP.

What algaecide did you add?

Algae can consume the generated chlorine faster than the SWG can generate it.

Does your pool pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test? If not, you need to follow the SLAM Process to get your pool algae-free.

You need a good test kit. The Taylor K-2006C or TFT Test Kits

I looked around yesterday and found the SLAM process, and printed it off, I started it this morning. It can't hurt. I'll have to look on what the algaecide was, I threw away the bottle.

Thanks for responding
