Hey All. I've been battling some cloudy water for a little over a week. We've a fair amount of rain lately and one incident where the pool hose was left on for awhile over flowing, so I had to add 4 lbs of CYA about a week ago to bring that back and I've also added a few gallons of bleach and a gallon or so of muriatic acid over the past couple weeks. I have been trying to run the bleach a little heavier over the past couple weeks, but I can't seem to clear the water up.

I use pool math and have the TF100 test kit.

This morning I added 32 oz of 10% bleach, then tested the chemicals after a couple hours - my pump runs continuous.

My current numbers are:
FC: 4.0
CC: 1.0
pH: 7.8
TA: 210
CH: 375
CYA: 28
Temp: 89°

Bleach, Muriatic Acid and CYA are typically all I use.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Started the slam - lost about 4 ppm on FC over night. I added enough bleach to bring me back to the recommended 10 ppm. I have the solar cover off right now - should that be on or off?

Best to have the cover off during the day. It allows the sun to burn off the CC created.

Be sure to raise your FC to SLAM level for your CYA of 30, that is 12 ppm FC.]

You did lower the pH to 7.2 before you started, correct? Be sure to read the SLAM Process article.

yupp! I added 21 oz of Muriatic Acid early yesterday morning to bring me down to 7.2 pH before starting to add bleach. Got the article read and the extra bleach bought, even added a bit of diatomaceous earth to the sand filter. I do feel like I've had to backwash more lately... I'm assuming thats a potential buildup of dead algae?

I've been adding chemicals to meet the recommended 11-12 ppm for the last few days, but I am still losing incredibly fast. Should I bump it up to 13 or 14 to try to get on top of things. Would staying too low just prolong the SLAM as the algae grows 'as fast' as you kill it? Can you go too high? I'm losing it so fast, it wouldn't be too high for too long. I last added bleach at midnight to bring me up to 12ppm, and just tested 5ppm 12 hours later.

No need to go higher, just wastes chlorine. Frequency is another matter. If you can increase the frequency, but no more than every 2 hours, SLAM will go faster.

Thankfully that's exactly what the kit's directions laid out!

It's weird... I used 'Pristine Blue' the year before last summer. The water always stayed clear, but I knew I had a problem when the walls felt a little scummy / slippery. This year after a fair amount of rain all of a sudden the pool turned hazy... it never did get slippery though.
