Clorox vs Chlorine

The 'Outdoor Bleach' has polymers. It most likely will foam and/or degrade the performance of your filters.

Be ware of most household bleach/Clorox, they all have additives and most are 6% or less in concentration.

Not sure where in CT you are located, but it looks like Ocean State Job Lot has many locations in CT, the stores in MA already have their 12% "Pool Shock" in stock for $2.99 a gallon. The bottles I purchased were made on the 55th day of this year so it's fresh. Try their website, it will help you find local stores and show their stock levels.

Are there other additives that we need to watch out for when looking at bleach alternatives? What is a good percentage? Found a restaurant supplier selling Germicidal bleach with 5.7% available chlorine.

From Liquid Chlorine - Further Reading

If you buy household bleach, you want pure liquid chlorine with no additives. Additives such as fragrances, thickeners (splashless), or surfactants (outdoor bleach) may cause foaming. Bleach with fabric protectors (chloromax technology) may also cause foaming.
